It seems the Marvel Universe, much like the real universe, just can't help expanding. Today, we received the exciting news that Marvel will be teaming up with Telltale Games to deliver a new interactive superhero experience.
The announcement, which came to us from Marvel Games' executive producer Mike Jones, leaves a lot to get excited for. Although most of the juicy details have yet to be announced, Jones released a statement claiming:
"We've been busy. It takes a long time to find the right partner. We have one special game we're excited about."
For those of you who do not know, Telltale Games are currently blazing a new path through the video game industry. Their episodic games, which frequently highlight storytelling and player decisions over generic action, are often based on pre-existing properties, including The Walking Dead comics, the Vertigo graphic novel Fables, Borderlands and Game of Thrones. You can check out the moody opening for The Wolf Among Us, the game adapted from Fables, below:
Basically, if you're not already excited for this team-up, you really should be. The Walking Dead games were one of the most moving, tense and ultimately heartbreaking creative experiences I've ever had - and I'm not the kind of guy to say that lightly. If you've played that game through to the end, you'll know what I mean. The marriage between Marvel and Telltale really could deliver something special.
Currently there are no more details about Marvel's partnership with Telltale, although Jones did state the game would be "sexy," adding:
"If it doesn't turn heads, if it doesn't get you excited to talk with your friends, it's not a Marvel game. It has to command attention."
What we do know is that it is due to be released sometime in 2017.
