With the last episode of the eighth season just days away, considerable speculation abounds as the possibilities of the vaunted CBS sitcom’s pending cliffhanger.
While cliffhangers are customary for all TV shows that return for another season, this season’s finale looks as if it might be a doozy.
The Big Bang Theory episode synopsis, as it appeared on TV.com, seems fairly straight forward:
“Leonard and Penny are pressured to set a wedding date by Sheldon, whose relationship with Amy has taken an interesting turn.”
It seems fairly straightforward.
Then showrunner Stephen Molaro, in a recent interview The Hollywood Reporter, fueled the speculation by claiming that the finale will feature life-changing decisions for the characters of Sheldon, Amy, Leonard and Penny.
My two cents:
It’s too soon for a wedding for either of the above-mentioned couples. Sure, things have been dragging on for their respective storylines but, if you remember, the show has been renewed for a ninth and tenth season. Technically-speaking, that’s more than forty episodes. Hence, they’ve got to get some mileage out of the all storylines.
Also, since the two couples seem to be in their own respective ruts, rushing down the proverbial alter would be a bit disingenuous.
On the other hand, there is an old adage that claims you don’t appreciate what you have until you lose it. Not to mention, the tension of a “will they or won’t they” situation will keep fans enthralled.
What I Think Will Happen:
Sheldon applying pressure on others, as mentioned in the episode synopsis, is nothing new.
Earlier in the season, the producers toyed with creating tension between Leonard and Penny when she had a chance to restart her acting ambitions.
But just when you thought the sparks would fly, she quickly reconsidered the notion and the matter seemed resolved.
Or was it?
If I were a betting man (and I’m not), I would think the safe money would be on a major bump in the road for them.
On the other hand, I think the considerable potential exists for a swerve and, that would be Amy getting so tired of Sheldon being too focused on others and not focused enough on their relationship.
She will play hardball enough to call it quits with her man.
Okay, that concludes my input.
What do you think?
