As you have probably seen by now, Captain America himself, Chris Evans, told Esquire that the two Infinity War films will be shot back to back in a nine-month span. On the surface, that’s not very exciting news. But when you dig a little bit deeper... it’s still not that exciting. That being said, there is a little bit of digging to do. So let’s roll up our sleeves and get into it.

First, let’s talk about the time frame. From the scanning I did on the internet, people seem to be slanting this to seem like a very long project. And yes, working on a single project for nine months does seem like a long time. But, for comparison, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows shot for 16 months. So for a project as big as Infinity War, nine months doesn’t really seem that long.

Nine months of filming? That's cute

This is going to be a crucial film for the MCU. In many ways, this is the big payoff. There’s a reason they made it their main event of Phase Three and the press conference where they announced the Phase Three lineup. They know that this is one of the most popular story lines that Marvel has to offer. This is a movie that the people want to see, so you better believe there is some pressure to get it right.

I’m not saying that nine months is not enough time to get it right. I’m just pointing out the importance of this film.

To challenge them is to court death

Now here is the part of Evan’s statement that is a bit more exciting. But not really. Once you slow down and think about it... it’s really nothing new. But what we can take from this is... CAP WILL BE IN INFINITY WAR! No no wait... we kinda knew that already. But we didn’t know who Cap would be. Now we know... STEVE ROGERS WILL BE IN INFINITY WAR! Well that happened in the comics right? So nothing too big there. But wait, this means... STEVE ROGERS WILL SURVIVE CIVIL WAR!

Ok, there’s the exciting part. But just take a minute... settle down... and let’s go over what this actually confirms. All we know for sure from what Evans said is.... Chris Evans will be in Infinity War. There’s a reason that’s not in caps (see what I did there). Saying that Evans will be playing Rogers in the present in [The Avengers: Infinity War](tag:738027), is jumping to conclusions. For all we know, he is simply in some flashback, maybe from Bucky or Stark and the others.

We've seen a flashback of Cap before

Ok, let’s say we scrap the flashback theory. It is still conclusion jumping to say that Captain America is surviving Civil War. How could he be present in Infinity War if he dies before it happens? Gee I don’t know, maybe the fact that the villain will be holding a gauntlet full of stones that allow him to literally control anything he wants. Whether this means Thanos will bring him back or some other event will lead to his resurrection, it is very possible that Cap will come back to life.

But first he would have to die...
But first he would have to die...

Now, we knew that Evans would be appearing in at least one movie after [Captain America: Civil War](tag:994409), based on his contract. So when you settle in and break it all down, the news here is... that there isn’t much news. However, any excuse us Marvel fans can find to start getting excited for Infinity War, we’re going to take it.
