Last weekend Bruce Jenner's groundbreaking interview with Diane Sawyer aired on ABC. The athlete and reality TV star bravely revealed that he was a transgender woman, and was about to embark on a journey to becoming on the outside the person he knew he was on the inside - a female.

Jenner's choice to speak on camera has no doubt opened hearts and minds across the world on the subject of transgender people, and there was one revelation in particular that would have surprised many: despite being a transgender woman, Jenner is not gay.

Speaking to Diane Sawyer, Bruce Jenner (who for the time being has withheld his new female name, and still prefers to use male pronouns) stated:

No, I am not gay. As far as I know, I am heterosexual. I have never been with a guy. I’ve always been married, raising kids.

He calls the whole thing "confusing," but this part of the interview no doubt brought a great deal of relief to his three former wives, Chrystie Crownover, Linda Thompson and Kris Jenner, as well as his 10 children.

The Bruce Jenner interview continues to make waves world wide, and will no doubt be held up as a landmark moment in the continuing fight for LGBT people to be understood by others. We wish Bruce well on this new journey in life.
