If you have faith like I do, then I'm sure you feel that 2015 could actually be the year that we see Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption 2. Whether it be a reveal of the game, or it actually gets a release date for this year, I'm sure that one of 2K's secret games is Rockstar's return to the glorious formula they gave us in 2010.
GTA V has been Rockstar's top game for the past three years, with no other title on the horizon. Therefore, we may be actually settling down to the returning pattern of one Rockstar game a year once more! I seriously miss the presence of their titles. Of course, we could be getting Max Payne 4, L.A. Noire 2, Bully 2 or even an new IP, but with the success of the last title, it has to be Red Dead Redemption 2 that's next in line for a release date. But how will they change up the formula of Red Dead Redemption?
Red Dead Redemption 2 Location & Map
Red Dead Redemption is cemented in the setting of the old west. But that's not to say that its sequel has to stay within the boundaries of this region. Rockstar have the power to take Red Dead Redemption 2's location to anywhere they want, and there are a few different places that they could take the game that could feature a great map!
Red Dead Redemption was set at the cusp of modernity and the arrival of Eastern law and order to the wild west. The railroad at the outset of the game is indicative of this change and it was a great time to set their western. If they return to this setting for the sequel, I wonder whether they'll move further back in time, or perhaps move forwards and allow us to travel from the wild west to a more eastern city and see how the modern lifestyle clashes with that of the cowboys. That'd be insanely cool, and we all know that we want an enormous map for Red Dead Redemption 2.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Set Outside of the USA
But what if Rockstar actually made a bold move and changed the setting for Red Dead 2 to some other country outside of the USA? Though it may not seem very possible, there were very similar places to the wild west around this time. One such country that had similar things going on was Japan.
In fact, a lot of America's most famous westerns take a great deal from the Samurai epics from Japan, especially from the work of Akira Kurosawa. Imagine if the location of Red Dead Redemption 2 was set in a modernising Japan. We'd have samurai, but also guns and it'd be set around the same time that Red Dead Redemption is, as guns made their way to Japan during these years. But we could actually have a mix between more modern weapons and an amazing samurai sword!
But this could just be a crazy desire of my own, what do you think Rockstar fans? Would you hate to see the Red Dead series move away from the USA? If the setting of Red Dead Redemption 2 moved to somewhere like Japan, would you still be as excited to play it? Let us know in the comments!
