The fantasy genre is about to make a new friend when the last witch hunter arrives in theaters. Vin Diesel is putting the pedal to the medal or in this case the metal to the sword ( he still still drives a car in the movie, but this was fun to say). Diesel is still proving to be quite profitable for movie studios, especially after his latest triumph in Furious 7 which managed to gross over $1 billion dollars at the box office. His career seems pretty sustainable and even if he ever decides to walk away from acting he will take up directing or simply produce movies respectively.

Here's the plot synopsis:

An immortal witch hunter is tasked with the job of coming between the covens of New York City and their goal to destroy humanity by way of a horrific plague. In order to accomplish this he must partner up with a beautiful female witch, something that he thought he would never do.

This film is particularly interesting since this is a different approach for Vin Diesel in terms of genre-hopping. Vin Diesel in a supernatural film is almost an oddly wrapped gift to those who enjoy his movies and an invitation to those who enjoy supernatural horror films but aren't as familiar with Diesel's work. The plot of the film sounds cliched but simplified and easy to follow, unless there is a complexity to this film that we can't see while reading the synopsis. The cast turns heads as well since Elijah Wood and Michael Caine will be playing fairly significant roles in the film.

We can probably assume that this movie is part of a larger story....oh wait, it is. Lionsgate is so confident about this film that they are already planning a sequel and they are firm in the belief that Vin Diesel will commit to the franchise, this isn't surprising since Lionsgate has been accumulating multiple properties in preparation for the conclusion of the Hunger-games which has become one the most popular film franchises to come from the studio. When the box office results come in we will know for sure if people are married to the idea of Vin Diesel headlining a supernatural action franchise.
