Last year we heard that Overkill would be developing a new game of the The Walking Dead franchise. At the time, very little details were revealed and unfortunately that hasn't changed much.

However, today we did receive a little nugget of news which, at the very least, has acted to remind us the game even exists. Overkill's parent company, Starbreeze has just announced the game will release on Playstation 4, XBox One and PC in 2016. You can remind yourself of the teaser trailer below:

Currently, all we know is that the project is a Walking Dead (the comics, not the TV show) themed cooperative game, which immediately makes one think it might simply be a Left 4 Dead clone - a game which has basically perfected the fast-paced zombie cooperative experience.

Indeed, Overkill is also the studio behind the cooperative heist-em-up Payday, which in itself is basically Left 4 Dead, but with cops and robbers - Payday even includes a Left 4 Dead campaign map as downloadable content. Kirkman has originally stated the Walking Dead game will be similar to Payday 2 although set in a larger world, which certainly does make it sound a bit like Left 4 Dead. Hopefully, Overkill have something up their sleeves to make this game original enough to stand on its own and not draw unfavorable comparisons.
