After the resounding critical acclaim, and outright unstoppable awesomeness, of Drew Goddard, Charlie Cox and Netflix's take on the "Devil of Hell's Kitchen," there seems to be a real thirst for the more bloodier and grit-addled side of Marvel's bustling cast of superpeople.

Netflix's impending assembling of the other Defenders with Kristen Ritter's Jessica Jones and Mike Colter's Luke Cage, will usher in a promise of more tense and insane encounters with the evils of New York, but the team seems light one fan favorite. Where is Danny Rand, the immortal Iron Fist?

In an interview with Howard Stern, actor Ryan Phillippe dropped the bomb that he had been in conversation with the all-powerful Marvel:

Marvel is interested in talking about a Netflix series, possibly. The Daredevil series is great.

Here's a little snippet of the interview:

Leading to a veritable monsoon of speculation over whether he would be taking up the mantle of Iron Fist in Netflix's mini-series. Alas, in a move, which could be an attempt at brushing his potential casting under the carpet, ready for a huge unveiling, Phillippe took to Twitter to debunk the speculation:

With no showrunner and no date set for Danny Rand's entrance to the MTU, the rumor mill will grind on and grind hot.

And with that in mind...

What do you make of this?

Would Ryan Phillippe make a good Iron Fist? Have you any other actors in mind for the role?

And, guys, if you haven't watched Daredevil yet (WHY NOT?!), here's a trailer to whet your appetite for destruction:
