While I doubt many people would describe the Valentines Day box office hit Fifty Shades of Grey as anything less than thrilling, those of us eagerly anticipating the sequel can now rest assured that the sequel will bring even more to the table than the first film!
During an interview between Universal Pictures chairman Donna Langely and the Hollywood Reporter, Langely revealed that the sequel to Fifty Shades of Grey, which is titled Fifty Shades Darker will be "more of a thriller" than the original movie. Umm, is this even possible?! Just look at this trailer, it already had us gripped and then the full film in no way disappointed with thrills!
Langley also commented on the hiring of Niall Leonard to write the script for the second film, a controversial choice given that Leonard is the husband of the author of the Fifty Shades trilogy, E.L. James. Langely quashed fears about Leonard not being properly qualified for the job by saying "he actually did a draft that wasn't credited on the first movie, and he did a really good job."
The interview also covered the topic of E.L. James' and Fifty Shades director Sam Taylor-Johnsons on-set tensions, simply stating:
For the record, the movie we ended up making is exactly the movie I wanted to make and that the studio wanted to make and that our director wanted to make.
And in the end that movie ended up being a smash hit, so I guess it all worked out!
