Netflix Inc. is the online streaming giant that has put a lot of pressure on paid cable TV providers, as well as other similar online services. The company has managed to sustain its domestic and international position despite of facing tough competition from peers and competitors. Netflix has the most impressive catalogue of online movies and TV shows that it offers to its users. It has been successful in signing deals with big TV shows, including Game of Thrones, Orange Is The New Black, House of Cards, etc.
Talking about House of Cards, the series has been one of the most watched shows throughout the world due to its compelling story. Furthermore, the series has been one of the most popular on Netflix's roster. In a short span of time, it has become a very big attraction not only for the online streaming service but for its subscribers as well. It is a drama series based on politics; hence, it did not attract a substantial number of viewers on Netflix in the first month. A research was taken place by Luth Research Group, which involved around 2,500 subscribers that access the service on smartphones, tablets, or computers. It was reported that the drama series had lesser views and traffic than Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Daredevil, both.
This study reported that around 11% of subscribers have watched one episode at least of Daredevil in the first month when it aired on April 10. These numbers surpassed all other shows. Furthermore, ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ could only attract 7% of viewers in the same period, whereas House of Cards had 6.5% viewers.
Regardless of these low numbers, the political drama series has managed to stay on top as being the most popular TV series. The most popular series of Netflix is ‘House of Cards’, if all three seasons are counted, reported by Luth Research.
The company has sidelined the pay TV cable business, as well as all other online streaming services that have come in its way. Previously, it was signing deals with blockbuster TV shows to get rights to air them. Now, it currently focuses on owning and producing its own original programming in order to pose more threat on cable television providers who are doing similar things.
Netflix has been the best out there in any region it has expanded. The company wants to strengthen its position in domestic and international markets. The growing popularity of the service proves its significance in the global market.
