So far there have been 11 films and 4 seasons of television in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). It's been a great run so far with a few great entry's, a few good ones and a few mediocre ones. That is part of the strength of the MCU, even its worst parts are by no means bad. But in this article we'll look at the very best of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the top ten moments. These moments are selected on various criteria, such as story and character importance, awesomeness, cinematography, direction, and special effects.
10. The assassination of Nick Fury (Captain America: The Winter Soldier)
Captain America: The Winter Soldier is a top notch film. It is one of the best that Marvel have made. This scene sees Hydra agents trying to assassinate SHIELD Director Nick Fury in his car. Fury uses his full array of cool gadgets to escape, before he encounters the Winter Soldier, who seemingly has him before one final gadget gives him his freedom, for now. It's the great score, tension and Samuel L. Jackson's performance which lift this scene.
9. Meet Nick Fury (Iron Man)
Yep, more Nick Fury. This scene is at the end of Iron Man's credits. Fury informs Iron Man, and by extension the audience, that he's part of a bigger universe. This scene is great because it is when we get our first real sense as to what Marvel is building to. As part of the first film of the series, it was totally unexpected. This is the moment where we really started to take notice. It was ambitious, bold and definitely exciting.
8. Avengers group shot (2) (Avengers: Age of Ultron)
Obviously, spoilers for Age of Ultron:
These scene parallels a similar one in Avengers 1. The avengers stand in a circle and the camera goes around showing them all in action. This includes the new Avengers: Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, and the Vision. The shot is a great payoff and sets up the final battle nicely. Plus, it's just really cool.
7. Wilson Fisk, the Russian, and the car door (Daredevil)
When we first meet Wilson Fisk (A.K.A. Kingpin) he seems to be a mild-mannered, well dressed and possibly somewhat autistic man. He doesn't immediately seem to be a symbol of power and fear. But then he is interrupted on his date. A Russian gangster, who actually wants to join Fisk, enters the restaurant, causing a panic. Fisk retaliates. He doesn't just have the Russian shot or assassinated, he personally, physically beats him into a pulp, letting all his rage out. As a final blow, Fisk uses a car door to remove the Russian's head. It's brutal, it's terrifying, and it proves that the Kingpin is set to be one of the best Marvel villains yet.
6. Come and Get Your Love (Guardians of the Galaxy)
Just like in number 7, this scene shows us the true nature of a major character. This wonderful scene immediately brings us on board with Peter Quill. He's not some mysterious mystic space ranger, he's a guy who loves to have a good time. The scene perfectly set the tone of the film, much better than the previous Mrs Quill death scene. Set to Redbone's "Come and Get Your Love", this scene is a great way to start the main body of the film. Bringing to life a character which is now a new favourite in modern pop culture.
5. The Vision is born (Age of Ultron)
Once again spoilers for Avengers 2:
How awesome is the vision? Paul Bettany is perfect in the role and the costume designers really gave him an awesome look. His arrival is well managed, with suitable arguments from the team. The awe and shock on the faces of the Avengers is what really makes this scene, they, like the the audience, are amazed at how cool the vision is. The bit with Mjolnir is hilarious and a great payoff for the jokes earlier. The coolness that Bettany brings is fantastic and this is a really great moment for fans of the character.
4. The Highway Fight (Captain America: The Winter Soldier)
Captain America: The Winter Soldier is the most grounded film in the MCU so far. This fight scene, for me, is its best moment. The Bucky/ Cap fist fight is the best choreographed fight in the Marvel films thus far. The skill is excellent. The parts with Falcona dn Widow enrich this scene rather than distract from it. The winter soldier theme rings out throughout the battle and it's one of the best in the Marvel films yet. The Russo brothers really put everything into this scene and it really pays off, showing us a different style of Marvel fight scene.
3. Avengers Circle Shot (Avengers)
Years ago, the idea of an Avengers film was not even in the realm of possibility, but it actually happened. This shot, seen above, was the moment where all the build up, all the hype, all the previous films payed off. We finally got to see all these characters on screen at the same time. In a film that gives plenty of fan service, this moment stands out and will be remembered in pop culture for a long time to come.
2. "I am Iron Man" (Iron Man)
Iron Man was a really good film, it gave us a cool protagonist, excellent action and great humour. When this scene begins, you expect that Tony will deny being Iron Man and go away, just like Spiderman, Batman or Superman, he'll keep his identity a secret. But he doesn't, he proclaims to the world that he is Iron Man. This is great because it establishes why this franchise is going to be different, superhero movies don't have to be the same (I'm looking at you Spiderman, 5 films, 1 plot). This was the moment where Iron Man went from a good movie to a great one. This was where Marvel really shocked audiences and set a great precedent for things to come.
Hulk vs The Abomination (The Incredible Hulk)
Black Widow takes care of the guards (Iron Man 2)
Hulk smashes Loki (Avengers)
Loki is revealed to be alive and posing as Odin (Thor: The Dark World)
Ward is Hydra (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 1)
Dancing Baby Groot (Guardians of the Galaxy)
Skye gains her powers ( Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2)
The Avengers throw a party (Age of Ultron)
1. The Hallway (Daredevil)
This is, in my humble opinion, the best scene, the best moment that Matvel has given fans so far. Daredevil was great because the fights felt so real, every punch was felt by the audience. In this scene Daredevil is trying to save a small boy, but to do it he has to fight his way through a horde of Russians, the fight is superbly choreographed and performed, but the best thing is the fact that it is all done in one shot. The cinematography and camerawork is high class. The scene is beautiful, brutal, thrilling and above all else, awesome.
