Iron Man (2008) is the first installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and it delivers big time.
I first saw this film back when it came out, although I saw it when it first came out on DVD. It was different from other superhero films, certainly. Previously, the only superhero films I really watched prior to Iron Man included Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Ghost Rider, Fantastic Four, X-Men, etc... so it was quite shocking for the hero at the end to make an announcement as big as he did.
The film, 7 years later, still holds up with special effects. It looks like it could have been made yesterday, honestly.
It's definitely a top superhero film in the film industry.
The plot of the film couldn't have been done any better. I was indulged from the start. I though the cave scenes were amazing and his escape from the cave was perfect. His experiments with the creation of the Iron Man armor was interesting and the unfolding of the end events with Obadiah Stane was breath-taking. Definitely a great story.
Obviously, Tony Stark being portrayed by Robert Downey Jr. was one of the best choices Marvel Studios has ever made. Downey Jr. as Stark is like Harrison Ford as Han Solo. A replacement actor for the character would never work! Pepper Potts was interesting as she was portrayed by Gwyneth Paltrow. Good acting job in all. Rhodey was played by Terrance Howard and Howard did a great job. Jeff Bridges did an amazing job playing Stane. Shaun Tomb did a great performance as Yinsen. Tomb's role was powerful.
I'm pretty sure I can just say that "Iron Man" by Black Sabbath and "Back in Black" by AC/DC made the soundtrack spectacular and it'll get the message across that there were no flaws here.
Amazing film. I recommend this film to anyone who enjoys action or simply a great story!
