I wasn't too thrilled with what I saw in Iron Man 2 after what I saw in Iron Man. I first saw this film when it was out in the movie theaters back in 2010 and I remember leaving the theater rather unsatisfied with what I saw. I didn't think it was bad. I didn't think it was good. It was just... a film to me.
The plot was rather dull for me although I do realize it was actually a well-thought out story. I just didn't really like the whole concept of the plot in my personal opinion.
Maybe the reason I didn't enjoy the plot is because what the government wants in the film, the Iron Man suit technology, is barely present in the film. Stark wears the suit for a few scenes but most of the time he is not wearing it. In Iron Man he wears his suit much more than he had done in this sequel.
Whiplash was a great villain though. The final parts of the film were exciting.
Again, Robert Downey Jr. gives us an excellent performance as Tony Stark / Iron Man. His wise-comments and cocky attitude did impress me once again. Job well done.
Pepper Potts is more interesting in this film than she was in Iron Man. Paltrow returns and gives us an emotional portrayal of Ms. Potts. One of the strong points in Iron Man 2.
Don Cheadle's performance as James Rhodes, taking over the part of Terrance Howard, was well-done. I enjoyed Cheadle's acting as he didn't sway from the way Howard portrayed Rhodey in the first film; which was done well.
Whiplash, or Ivan Vanko, played by Mickey Rourke, was amazing. I actually though Rourke's performance as Vanko was almost as good as Downey Jr.'s performance as Tony Stark.
Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer actually annoyed me. I didn't like Hammer's character at all.
Scarlet Johansson as Black Widow was a great performance. I wasn't expecting much from her but I was proven wrong. Great performance here.
And of course, Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury was funny and remarkable! Very interesting job and a job well-done.
The score and soundtrack was great-- just like Iron Man's score and soundtrack was. Although, it wasn't exactly at the same level. Job well-done here as well.
The film was a good film, but it just didn't win my thumbs up. I didn't care for it. I wasn't impressed really all too much, but I wasn't angry at the way it turned out. It just feels like 'another film' to me.
It's hard to explain. I just don't think it lives up to many other superhero films. I think the film could have gone down different paths or at least another script re-write should have been due to truly bring out the potential Iron Man 2 had.
