Fresh off snagging First Place (for a family film) at the WorldFest Houston International Film Festival last month, many of the cast and crew of "The Martial Arts Kid" are descending on the high-profile, prestigious Sunscreen Film Festival in St. Petersburg, Florida this weekend.
James Wilson, who produced the film with Cheryl Wheeker, says they all hope to keep the film's positive buzz and momentum going.
"We will be in the Family category again and I don't know how many films we'll be competing against, but we have our fingers crossed about winning another award", says James Wilson, who is also the brother of Don "The Dragon Wilson, who co-headlines the fiulm with fellow martial arts/action movie legend Cynthia Rothrock.
"We have a Q & A session and a screening", so we're all pretty excited about that", says James Wilson.
The Sunscreen Fiml Festival is one of the few associated with the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, the group that votes on the Academy Awards.
Which makes it a pretty big deal.
"The Martial Arts Kid" tells the tale of a troubled teen named Robbie, who is sent to live with his aunt and uncle, played by Rothrock and Don Wilson. He falls in love with Rina, played by Kathryn newton and has to deal with her ex-boyfriend Bo, the film's bully, played by Matthew Ziff.
James Wilson said that in addition to himself, Don Wilson will be in attendance, as will Wheeler, Matthew Ziff, Lorraine Ziff, writer/director Michael Baumgarten, Glenn Wilson and Olando Rivera.
James Wilson says he also looks forward to seeing a lot of the extras who were part of the filming for the scenes that took place in Cocoa Beach, Florida.
"The Martial Arts Kid" is scheduled to hit theaters soon.
