ATTENTION

SPOILERS FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NOT SEEN AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

The Mad Titan Thanos ,who has been pulling the strings on the Marvel Cinematic Universe since The Avengers, has caused many plot points to come into play. For example;

  • Loki's Battle of New York
  • Ronan's Attack on Xandar
  • Possibly Ultron's and Vision's creation.?.?.? Maybe???Probably not

But more recently we saw a certain little gem, or stone, in a certain little someone's head.

The Vision
The Vision

Yes, our New Avenger The Vision now houses the Mind Gem. The Mind Gem was previously housed in a protective casing in Loki's Scepter, which Ultron eventually broke. Now let us take a look at where our current stones hold refuge.

The Space Stone

The Tesseract
The Tesseract

After being held by S.H.I.E.L.D./HYDRA, the Tesseract is now currently being held in Asgard by Loki, or should we say "Odin". Loki's great battle in the Avengers was Thanos's first plan to obtain the stone when being held by S.H.I.E.L.D. However, it ultimately failed because of a certain little team.

Abilities: Travel through space, mostly through teleportation. Able to interfere with the motion of other objects.

Current Holder: Asgard, Loki, "Odin"

The Reality Stone

The Aether
The Aether

This stone was hidden away by Bor, father of Odin, in some secret box in some secret place. Lots of secrets. Here are all the SECRETS. After Jane Foster had stumbled upon this stone, she gained the power to possibly start The Convergence. This power then was transferred to Malekith The Dark Elf, who tried to turn the universe dark because we know all villains like black. After the events of Thor: The Dark World, the Asgardians had given the stone to Taneleer Tivan, the Collector.

Abilities: Alters all of reality; similar to the effects of a Cosmic Cube, but much, much higher. Malekith used this to alter reality in Thor by use of Convergence.

Current Holder: The Collector

The Power Stone

The Purple... I mean Power Stone
The Purple... I mean Power Stone

The Power Stone was found by Star-Lord, but given to Ronan. Ronan was to obtain the stone for a certain Mad Titan, but as we can see by his death, the plan didn't go quite to plan. However, this power house stone is now in the protective custody of the Nova Corps on Xandar.

Abilities: Increased strength and durability, enhances virtually any known superhuman ability, energy manipulation.

Current Holder: Nova Prime and The Nova Corps

The Mind Stone

Ultron's Vision of the perfect being was to be infused with the Mind Stone, and then defeat the Avengers. However, through the power of Thor, Vision found his good side with his fellow Avengers.

Abilities: Near-limitless psychic abilities including empathy, telepathy and telekinesis.

Current Holder: The Vision

The Time Stone

Abilities: Time travel; stop, slow down or speed up flow of time; accelerate or slow down aging; see into past/future.

Current Holder: Unknown

The Soul Stone

Abilities: Observe, attack or even steal a being's soul or spirit. Also used to revert individuals to their natural state. The Soul Stone can also create pocket realities.

Current Holder: Unknown

Now many ideas have been going around about where this stone may be currently in the MCU. Some have suggest that the Soul Stone will appear in Doctor Strange as Dormammu's weapon of choice. However, the two that I like the most is;

Heimdall's eyes: Heimdall has mentioned that he can peer into the souls of almost all of the creatures in the nine realms.

and,

Adam Warlock: Adam Warlock possessed the Soul Stone inside of his forehead, which Thanos had killed him for, but he eventually reanimated and used the Infinity Gauntlet for himself. We have seen Warlock's cocoon in Thor: The Dark World and Guardians of the Galaxy, but theories have been speculated that The Vision is the same as Adam Warlock in the MCU.

Did Thanos mean for Ultron to be created?

The mid-credit scene of Avengers: Age of Ultron showed Thanos putting on the Infinity Gauntlet, and than saying "Fine, I'll do it myself." This is to imply that he is not going to make other beings do his dirty work. This also means that Thanos knew that Ultron was created and that he failed to use the Stone for evil or whatever. This might also means that Thanos wanted Ultron to be created and than create the Vision, but at this point who really knows.

Infinity War

Now what I'm hoping will happen in Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 is to have the Avengers battle Thanos for the last stone he needs to control the universe, and than fail to stop him leading into Part 2. Hopefully they'll do something like this, maybe not though.

The Future of The MCU

[Thor: Ragnarok](tag:956858): Judging by the dream Thor had in Age of Ultron, he will start the Norse Apocalypse Ragnarok. Heimdall had said to Thor that he is nothing but destructive power, and he had brought Hel upon them. This is alluding to his hand in Ragnarok.

Doctor Strange: Possibly the Soul Stone's appearance, or maybe the Time Stone's. However, the location of these are still unknown and only time will tell where they might be.

Black Panther: Ulysses Klaw, the Australian who had gotten a swift chop on the arm by Ultron, is to be the main villain in The Black Panther movie. In the comic books he had robotic sonic blaster on his arm, so it makes sense that Ultron had chopped it off in a fit of rage.

[Captain America: Civil War](tag:994409): Throughout Age of Ultron we see Steve and Tony having nothing but big disagreements. Steve's mention of his dark side might suggest that in the next movie we will see what his dark side might hold. Also, Stark's fear scene in Age of Ultron foreshadows Captain America's death when, Cap's shield is broken and he says "You could have saved us, why didn't you save us."

Guardians of the Galaxy 2: Thor's dream scene had also showed us the four stones that have been found in the universe so far. This alludes to Thanos's role, and the Stones role in this movie.

[The Avengers: Infinity War](tag:738027) Part 1 and 2: With Cap's creation of the New Avengers, we will see these heroes battle with the All-Star original team in Infinity Wars along side Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, maybe Black Panther, and the Guardians of the Galaxy. Thanos implying that he will collect the Stone's for himself might suggest that Adam Warlock and the Vision are one in the same. To get the Mind Gem, Thanos will probably have to kill Vision. Hopefully Stark would be able to rebuild him. Stark's fear scene foreshadows the events that might take place in Infinity Wars, with all of the Avengers dead, but Stark.
