Yesterday - on Star Wars day of all days - we heard the relatively shocking news that director Josh Trank had left the second standalone Star Wars anthology movie for currently ambiguous reasons.
Today, the saga continues, as we've just found what the secretive project would have been. According to TheWrap, the second Star Wars anthology movie is a Boba Fett origin story, therefore potentially confirming one of the longest running rumors in the Disney Star Wars revival.
When news of three separate standalone Star Wars spin-off movies was announced last year, many fans were indeed hoping that the infamous Mandalorian bounty hunter would get his own movie. Despite only having several minutes of screentime, few lines of dialogue and a rather anti-climatic death, Boba Fett became one of the most loved and iconic Star Wars characters. You can remind yourself of that moment in the video below:
In the extended universe - which has now been rendered non-canon - Fett survives his encounter with the Sarlacc Pit and goes into even more adventuring. Personally, I think I would have liked to see this shown on the big screen, as it seems his origins were already somewhat handled in the Star Wars prequels. Despite this, I'm sure a Boba Fett origin movie will not leave fans disappointed.
However, it should be noted that Disney has yet to comment on the news.
Of course, now another big question remains. Who could possibly play Boba Fett?
