News of a Starship Troopers movie reboot has been whirling around the cosmos since 2011. We already know that Fast & Furious producer Neil Moritz will be overlooking the adaptation while Thor screenwriters Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller were attached to write. However, it still looks like little progress has been made as the project still appears to be on the earliest stage of the drawing board.
In an interview with HitFix, Moritz revealed that he was still unsure whether the adaptation of Robert Heinlein's classic, but controversial, science-fiction novel will be on the big or small screen. He stated:
We're developing it. We've actually been talking about either doing it as a feature or doing it as a television show. So we'll see.
The only other information we have regarding the project is a quote attributed to Stentz from last year. He explained his version of Starship Troopers was "less a satire" than the now classic 1997 Paul Verhoeven pulpy sci-fi film. Verhoeven, who had experienced Nazi occupation in his native Netherlands during the war, actually used Heinlein's own material to satirise militarism and fascism - breaking quite severely with tone of the original book. In fact, Verhoeven claimed upon reading the novel he became "bored and depressed", adding:
I stopped after two chapters because it was so boring,...It is really quite a bad book. I asked Ed Neumeier to tell me the story because I just couldn't read the thing. It's a very right-wing book.

As you can surely gather by this news, there is no currently release date for a Starship Troopers reboot, but what kind of adaptation would you like to see if and when it comes to fruition?
