Best known as his role as Bilbo Baggins in the Hobbit trilogy, actor Martin Freeman was announced to have joined Captain America: Civil War this morning. Freeman joins Benedict Cumberbatch, the infamous voice of Smaug, as a future Marvel star. The two also starred together in the highly successful show Sherlock. Could Cumberbatch have been influencial in Freeman's casting?

The role for the actor in Civil War is unknown, but with a talent such as Freeman, one definitely would hope the role would be of significant importance! In the announcement, Studios president Kevin Feige had only high praise for the talent:

"From his roles as Bilbo Baggins and Doctor Watson to Tim in 'The Office,' Martin's range from the dramatic to the comedic has consistently impressed us. We couldn't be more honored or excited to have such a talented actor join the Marvel Cinematic Universe."

Expect to see Martin next year when Captain America: Civil War hits theaters on May 6th, 2016.
