Still with me?

Alright, as you probably know, the newest installment in the MCU, [The Avengers: Age Of Ultron](tag:293035), saw the death of one of Earth's Mightiest Heroes...

Nope, not him...

Yes, Quicksilver met his demise in the final act of AoU, dying a hero's death, saving a young child and fellow Avenger Hawkeye (who was awesome in this film!). It was a death which really surprised me and I definitely did not see coming, excuse the pun! There has been a lot of articles of late on how Quicksilver could be resurrected, or might not even be dead, but my main question really is...

Should Quicksilver return?

Don't get me wrong, I LOVED Quicksilver in this movie, and I'm a big fan of Aaron Taylor Johnson, but I have a few opinions on why I think the MCU can survive without him, such as...

He had a full character-arc

Joss Whedon took care with this character.
Joss Whedon took care with this character.

In AoU we see Quicksilver starting off cocky, rash and full of a lust for revenge. Throughout the movie we see him open up emotionally as he shows more of a protective side when he tries to be the big brother to Wanda. In the final act we see a more mature and responsible Quicksilver as he becomes a true Avenger (but don't worry, he's just as cocky!!). In the little time we saw him, I think ATJ and Joss Wedon portrayed the character absolutely beautifully and a second outing might taint this performance. This brings me to my second point that...

Quicksilver died the hero

As I said before, Quicksilver died a hero's, death sacrificing himself for others. I think that bringing Quicksilver back into the mix would just make his sacrifice pointless and the ending of AoU wouldn't be as meaningful and emotional! All the pain Scarlet Witch went through would mean nothing and this brings me to the next point that...

It opens up so many new opportunities with Scarlet Witch

In the final act we only begin to see a fragment of what Scarlet Witch can do! In the comics Scarlet Witch is one of the most powerful beings there is - she can bend reality for pete's sake!

Pietro is always very protective of her and that worked well in this movie, but you can only do so much with the sibling relationship before it gets stale and looks like a re-run of the same stuff. Now that Wanda is by herself it opens up a whole new world of possibilities: she could continue on with the Avengers and become a big player in Civil War, or they could show how Pietro's death affects her and how her breakdown causes all of reality to turn upside-down. They could explore the love interest between vision and Wanda that would've been trickier to do if her over protective brother was in the way. Heck, she could even become Dr Strange's new apprentice or join the Inhumans!! All these would be great ways to develop her character and I if Quicksilver was still running around it would be a lot harder to follow through on these. Next up...

Do we really need another resurrection?

Now I know in the comics no one stays dead (apart from Uncle Ben) but come on! Sometimes it's like when you die in the MCU, you get to respawn. So far we've seen Loki, Nick Fury, Bucky and even Phil Coulson come back from death's door (there's probably more, let me know in the comments!). It's good for the odd dramatic twist but MARVEL is almost becoming reliant on the revival shock and if not used properly it could turn into a gimmick.

What makes Game of Thrones so gripping is that your favourite character could be ripped away from you in an instant. I'm not saying MARVEL need to go out all blood and gore but (and it kills me to say this) maybe Quicksilver should be left to R.I.P.. And finally...

Do we really need Quicksilver?

I'll say it again, I LOVED Quicksilver in this movie, but the fantastic thing about comics, especially MARVEL, is that there's hundreds of superheroes waiting to be explored!! They have an advantage of decades of source material and some unique and amazing heroes to take inspiration from, and that's the real beauty of comics!

But at the end of the day...

I'm not the one calling the shots, so who knows what will happen, all I know is that the future looks MARVEL-ous, excuse the pun again!!

Thank you for reading! This is my first post here at Moviepilot (and hopefully not the last) so let me know what you think in the comments! Until next time!
