Martin Freeman, star of The Hobbit, Sherlock and The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy has been added to the cast of Captain America: Civil War.

Freeman is a great actor capable of playing comedic characters and more dramatic characters. It's been his portrayal of Dr John Watson in Sherlock that really boosted his standing outside of England and he was always a bright spark as Bilbo Baggins in the somewhat forgettable Hobbit films. He's also been part of popular TV series like The Office (UK) and Fargo.

His prominent role in Sherlock has many hoping that he will in someway linked to Doctor Strange, which stars his Sherlock co-star Benedict Cumberbatch. However, that seems highly unlikely. Freeman isn't really a superhero type, and he's not all that young. So, whilst I think he'd be a great Spiderman, that won't be it.

Freeman will almost certainly be playing some sort of Government or S.H.I.E.L.D. official, who helps to enforce the Superhero Registration Act. There are other options, obviously, but that seems the most likely. That sorts of role can suit Freeman's demeanor and general style.

And if anyone doubts Freeman's ability, they need to be told...

Captain America: Civil War is out in 2016 and is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo. Freeman joins Chris Evans, Robert Downey jr, Scarlett Johannson, Jeremey Renner, Elisabeth Olsen and lots of others in the film.

Who do you think Freeman will be playing? Are you excited to see him in the film?
