Robert Gonzales will not be assuming the reins of S.H.I.E.L.D. from Phil Coulson and Coulson will not become a splinter group fragmented off from S.H.I.E.L.D. so that he can create the Secret Warriors.
And, I didn't see the Jiaying turn coming, either. Her intent to seed a war between the Inhumans and the humans was kept tightly under wraps. And, she's certifiably insane - she shot herself! Twice!!!
And, now she's doped up Calvin Zabo with his serum and put him in a S.H.I.E.L.D. QuinJet. That has to be almost as bad as the Hulk in a submarine... or, a helicarrier... The other passengers will not be pleased.
I should have expected that the Inhumans would have the means in place to be able to withstand the "talents" of the individuals in their community. That meant my assumption Raina would co-opt Gordon and run off to form her own society was misplaced. Gordon was solidly in Jiaying's employ all along.
And, that leads me back to Raina - heh... she was really, really telling the truth, all along. Jiaying negotiating with S.H.I.E.L.D. has led to war with the humans. Now, how much firepower does Jiaying have in her employ to bring against the forces of S.H.I.E.L.D. and... more importantly... will Coulson succumb to the desire to go blow her off her mountain top?
Skye is caught in the middle of the conflict. The agents on the ground in Lai Xi will be under attack and Skye will want to protect them. The Inhumans in Lai Xi will be under attack and Skye will want to protect them. What's a high-powered, nuclear-level weapon to do?
Initially, she goes with Mom. But, where does she realize she's on the wrong side? When Cal rips apart the QuinJet and kills a few agents? Is Jemma on that plane?
We know that Coulson, Fitz and Hunter are all back at HQ and completely separated from the action. But, from the preview pics, we can, likely, assume Jemma makes it out of the QuinJet as she, Fitz and Coulson are seen confronting ... someone (Skye, probably, judging by Simmons' pained expression).
Bobbi has been captured by Kara and Grant with rumblings of "...something that needs to be done... then, we can kill her...". Ward has an end-game, of some sort. And, he wants to be re-accepted by his mates. Are the two contradictory? Can he do both? Or, are they the same thing... ? Stay tuned. Marvel only doles out what is good for the now and holds lots of stuff to keep you hungry for more.
May and Skye are with the crust of what's left of Gonzales in Lai Xi as is Jemma and Cal and Jiaying. Jiaying, meanwhile, now has zero trust for humans having been, literally, jarred (all her organs, that is) by them. And, we find out they have been growing Terrigen Crystals, but, unfortunately for humans, their crystals still have ribbons of Diviner embedded within them meaning these particular ones are deadly to humans.
Wait - Not the Same Ones
When Black Bolt detonates the Terrigen Crystals in the comics, they are pure and not corrupted with the presence of Diviner materials. All the non-Inhuman humans were spared from the gruesome death Gonzales and those before him have suffered (Trip?). I am guessing what happened in the comics will, likely, occur in the MCU as Marvel is looking to explode the Inhuman population (a guess on my part) so that they can have the mutated individuals all throughout society from which to choose.
And, if they are, truly, going to develop a Ms. Marvel/Kamala Khan prior to the Captain Marvel movie, they may well create this explosion in the season finale of [Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.](tag:722469)! Maybe they'll only do a limited explosion over Manhattan or something.
Stay tuned, worthy Marvelites!
Something's about to happen!
Lai Xi is a Rogue Operation!
Why else would there be the impurities within the crystals? After the capture of her daughter by S.H.I.E.L.D. (the culprit as we have ascertained over the past couple of seasons), Jiaying appears to have gathered together her own community - separate from Attilan - to bring the human scum to their knees. And, she has developed a method of creating her own crystals and has "seeded" the story of the Inhuman history to keep her charges from knowing the truth.
Does Jiaying drop a crystal on Coulson? Does his Kree-enhanced DNA react with the Diviner material to allow him to survive and transform?
What does all of this mean to Attilan?
What does it mean for the show? Will S.H.I.E.L.D. survive? Or, with the spin-off be Coulson's team spinning out of S.H.I.E.L.D. and into Secret Warriors and Marvel/ABC killing off the current show? Does Bobbi & Hunter move without Coulson, et al, to the new spin-off and Coulson continue with his merry men as they are? Maybe ... Bobbi was reaching out to May in this episode... does May go with Bobbi and Lance?
Who'll drive the bus? Oh. Yeah. No bus. But, they do have a couple of shiny, new aircraft carriers... and, one of 'em flies!
Again, Stay tuned! Everything is up for discernment at this point.
