Fernanda Abarca, an animation artist for Dreamworks, has transferred her knowledge of sculpting and painting characters digitally into making cakes. She works closely with entertainment companies, bringing their characters to life for various events and premieres.

"I started reading about cakes and sugar sculptures and realized I could do something fun with it." ... "My first 'real' gig was with Dreamworks for the company's studio release celebration event of 'Rise of the Guardians' in late November. I didn't think much was going to come of it, but the cupcakes were a hit and subsequently, they decided to book me for 'The Croods' release event in March 2013, 'Turbo' in 2013, and I've since done a few other studio events. I also made my very first 3D cake 'The Elf' last December for a studio Christmas party. I could not BELIEVE how fun it was. People went crazy over it and I got hooked."

I can certainly understand how everyone went crazy over them! Each one is so intricate, and beautiful. I'm not sure if I could bring myself to eat them! Here's just a few of my favorites...

I've said that cakes are too pretty to eat before, but seriously, Elsa looks so pretty. I can't get over the fact that her face is made out of cake! It's so crazy!

I absolutely adore Sebastian's facial expressions. They're spot on!

Monsters University

Mikey is my favorite monster, so naturally I had to include him. This is a super cute idea for a kid's birthday. Mom (I know you're reading this), I want this cake for my next birthday, okay? I don't care that I'm 21 now. I need this!

This wouldn't be complete without everyone's favorite dragon, Toothless! Those eyes and scales are ridiculous! And those cupcakes are so adorable!

Most of the cakes are completely edible. For example, Baymax and Hiro stood 2ft (61cm) tall, and was sculpted out of 276 Rice Krispie treats, 8lbs (3.6kg) of chocolate, and 12lbs (5.4kg) of fondant! That's a lot of sugar.

You can find more of Fernanda's work on her website!
