Okay, the home stretch. Back on April 10th, I was provided with an opportunity, by our very own MoviePilot, to attend the annual Orlando MegaCon (which happens to be my first time ever attending a convention, ever). There was so much to do, and so much to see! There was plenty of great food, plenty of interesting panels, lots of really awesome merchandise to buy and lots of prizes to be won!
What I found myself really drawn to, however, was not so much the activities and whatnot, as the attendees themselves. Lots of folks came in plain clothes, but there was about an equal number of folks who came dressed as some of their (and my) favorite characters, from TV, movies, novels, comics, anime, manga, games and more. All across the genre-fandom spectrum, it was a sight to behold.
I have never done cosplay myself, so I just had to snag as many pictures of really great cosplayers as possible. Some were so clever, or so elaborately done, that I just couldn't pass them up. So here's my dedication to them. But I couldn't HOPE to choose an absolute favorite from among them, so this series will not be posted in ranking form, but alphabetical order. You be the judge of which is best!
For my fourth installation of this series, I wanted to pick out my favorite groups (four or more). With that being said, let's begin!
DANNY PHANTOM, SAM, TUCKER, BOX GHOST AND TECHNUS
Okay, so, Danny Phantom is already really great. And it's even great when you get Tucker and Sam at his side, against Box Ghost and/or Technus. What completely blew me over, though, was the fact that they already had this pose worked out. All I had to do was ask, and everyone assumed their proper position. Amazing.
They were everywhere. This is just a fraction. And not just different shapes, sizes and colors of regular Deadpool. There was Lady Deadpool, Pirate Deadpool, Green Lantern Deadpool, Assassin's Creed Deadpool, Couch Potato Deadpool, Pajama Deadpool, and more. They danced, pranced, marched, moshed and twerked through MegaCon as a growing army of one, and it was fantastic.
DISNEY PRINCESS GROUP SELFIE
There were plenty of great Disney princesses out at MegaCon. Lots of Princess Ariel, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel, Merida, and others. Though, this one struck me because, except for Cinderella, they were not versions of Disney princesses one might expect. Cut-Hair Rapunzel, Giselle from Enchanted, sexy Jafar-prisoner Jasmine and Cinderella, taking a selfie. I had to get my own pic.
DISNEY PRINCESS SAILOR SCOUTS
Belle from Beauty and the Beast. Ariel from The Little Mermaid. Cinderella. And gender-bent Emperor Kuzco from The Emperor's New Groove. And they're Sailor Scouts. I needed a double-take, to take in all the awesomeness. It was wondrous. The only thing I regret from this entire encounter, is that I didn't take the time to ask the lovely ladies to step to the side, so I could avoid that blasted glare...
MONKEY D. LUFFY (One Piece)
You wanna know why this is particularly hilarious? This is not some random meeting of four Luffy cosplayers, who just happened to meet up and thought it was cool. These four actually dressed the same on purpose, and roved about MegaCon as a gang of Straw Hat pirates. Not a single Roronoa Zoro, Sanji, Usopp or Chopper among them. They ALL wanted to be Luffy, so they were ALL Luffy.
PAC MAN, INKY, PINKY AND CHERRY
This one was another great scene cosplay. When I asked for a pic of Pac-Man, he just called his buddies together, and I was looking at a little piece of the game.
And just in case you thought that Pac-Man was about to lose out in an ambush from Inky and Pinky, Pac-Man made good use of that dot, and they're gonna get it.
POWERPUFF IMPOSTORS AND THE MAYOR (Powerpuff Girls)
This was absolutely wonderful. And if you don't know why, then look back through the old episodes. This is not just three random guys who decided it'd be fun to genderbend the Powerpuff Girls. This is from the PPG episode 'Powerpuff Bluff', where three male criminals dress up as the Powerpuff Girls to get away with a crime spree. It's cosplay-within-a-cosplay, like Inception or something.
SAILOR MOON CAST
I was randomly making my way around the con, and didn't know where to find anything, so I missed out on the Marvel and DC and other anime group pics like this. For anyone who doesn't know, though, I'm a huge fan of Sailor Moon, so this was a huge consolation. Everybody looked amazing, head to toe, with only Sailor Saturn, Luna, Artemis,Diana and some minor villains missing. It was beautiful.
SPIDER-MAN AND VILLAINS
This was pretty great to come across. Again, plenty of singular heroes and singular villains arrived out at MegaCon. There were even different stylized variations on the characters, and different character pairings. This one was my favorite of the Spider-Man/Villain groupings. The Shocker, The Lizard, Venom and Carnage were all female, and I'm pretty sure Spider-Man was, too. It was great.
Sadly, I have yet to feast my eyes on the full series of Young Justice (and I do regret not having given it a watch before it got, sadly, cancelled), but it didn't stop me from getting major superhero fan feels when I saw these lot crossing my path. Wonder Girl, Arsenal, Artemis, Static, Aqualad, Miss Martian, Beast Boy and Tye Longshadow were a delight to see in action.
So, that concludes my MegaCon cosplay series! Of this grouping of ten different groups, do you have a favorite? Do you have a certain order you would rank my favorites, from 1 (least favorite) to 10 (most favorite)? Or did you see a cosplay group out at MegaCon, that you think are better than the ones I chose?
