Defining The Genre? Gun Media’s survival horror, 'Slasher Vol. 1: Summer Camp' is a terrifying homage to the cult slasher series Friday The 13th and stars the real Jason Voorhees!
This could be the ultimate in survival horror, this is not just for the gamers, this title will appeal to horror fans across the world. 'Slasher Vol. 1: Summer Camp' will allow players to take control of, or be killed, by none other than the actual Jason Voorhees.
It is the actual Jason Voorhees!
Actor Kane Hodder is working on this title with Gun Media. Hodder was the man behind the mask for all of the later Friday the 13th titles (7, 8, 9, 10) and is single handedly responsible for many a night slept with the light on.
He also brought out the strength of Jason Voorhees - the sheer intimidation factor. Hodder is responsible for the iconic imagery of Jason Voorhees' full upper body breathing that is now synonymous with Jason Voorhees..
Whether you refer to his role as Jason Voorhees in four of the Friday the 13th movies or his latest chilling role as Victor Crowley in Hatchet. Kane Hodder has been slashing his way through Hollywood for almost half a century.
Hodder's collaboration on this title will help make this game feel real, it will emulate exactly what went on in that camp in Friday the 13th. Hodder is a horror specialist, his input will allow for gameplay to be as real as it can be without actually being there.
Kane Hodder is one of my personal movie heroes. If you consider that even with today's special effects and blockbuster horrors, Jason Voorhees still stands strong as one of the all time greats.
In the early 90’s The Arsenio Hall Show was the show to watch on a night but one of the defining moments for me was when Jason Voorhees actually walked onto the set and sat down on the couch. This Is Jason for crying out loud! Take a look.
Summer Camp is a third-person, horror, survival game, where players can be a teen counselor or the killer. You don’t have to eat, drink or sleep. Just live. That’s hard enough as it is.
This is my love letter to the Friday the 13th film series. Wes Keltner, Creator
The woods are dark, just the faint glimmer of the moons reflection is caught in between the ripples on the lake. It's quiet, all you can hear is a lonely cricket as a soft breeze caresses the leaves in the trees.
Something is not right, how can I feel this uneasy when it is so peaceful? Then, all of a sudden, nothing. No sound, no breeze, the air is still. The overpowering scent of decay washes over me, I look over my shoulder but see nothing, why is it so still?
Something sinister, something dark, something .. Evil is here. Why did I take this job as a counselor here. The lake is black the reflection of the moon has gone, a crack of a branch echos behind me. Was that a glint of silver that pierced the darkness ahead of me? Then I see..
Welcome to Slasher Vol. 1: Summer Camp!
Also working on this title, will be horror special effects artist Tom Savini and horror composer extraordinaire Harry Manfredini. Savini and Manfredini both worked with Hodder on the iconic Friday the 13th movies.
They will both lend their individual skills and talents to bring the game to life. Composer Harry Manfredini is responsible for that unmistakably haunting 'Ch Ch Ch Ch, Ah Ah Ah Ah' that we all used to do through the door to scare our friends or relatives at night. He will be composing the music for Slasher Vol. 1: Summer Camp.
Mirroring Camp Crystal Lake from the Friday the 13th series, players will try to survive in a camp ground setting. Complete with a lake, cabins, and crazed killer who won’t stop until you die a gruesome death.
The entire focus of Summer Camp is multiplayer, it will support 6-8 players in a large scale eerie environment. In it, players team up with friends to hide, survive or potentially kill Jason Voorhees.
One player will take on the role of Jason via a third-person perspective, the others must simply survive. Jason will have special abilities that will give him somewhat of an advantage, but the counsellors will have numbers on their side. Use your cunning to evade Jason, survival is key.
Players will be able to hatch plans between one another, if players are able to master distraction tactics and work well together as a team they may just be able to lure Jason out into the open or maybe even into a trap. Just remember, don’t go into the woods, alone. Ever.
Be Kind. Rewind. Gun Media are keen to be fully representative of the slasher era. They aim to transport us all back to the way we felt the first time that we watched Friday the 13th. Every aspect of Summer Camp is ripped straight from the VHS era. The visual treatment to the world mimics the artifacts found on VHS tapes of the 80’s. The tracking button helps.
I cannot wait for this title I am positively tingling with anticipation to see how this game will play out. I am a genuine fan of all things horror and all things gaming. I expect that this title will have me and all of you horror fans out there, shaking like a bobble-head doll during the Baja 500.
In case you hadn't noticed, the title states that this is volume 1, Gun Media will be bringing even more classic horror our way. The aim is to explore a whole manner of different cliche horror locales, so if Summer Camp is well received we can certainly expect a lot more teen slasher horror to come. Bring it on Gun Media team!
'Slasher Vol. 1: Summer Camp' will be available on Xbox One, PS4 and PC this summer.
