There's nothing creepier than crackling noises and flickering lights, but when it's in your own house at midnight it's terrifying. Flickering lights are one of the biggest horror cliches known, a lot of horror movies/books involve at least one flickering light. In the paranormal community, it is generally believed that spirits draw energy to manifest from electrical devices.

Recently my Mum and Brother have felt a presence around the house. Doors have been slamming and locking randomly (locking my Brother outside at 6am), seeing figures smudge through the corridors of our house and an eerie feel in the air. Now, I'm a big believer in the paranormal so I was very excited, but still sceptical. Being such a big believer in the paranormal I've always wanted to experience a haunting, I've visited places that are rumoured to be haunted but never have I seen a ghost. I'm sure if I did see a ghost I'd curl up in a ball and cry for hours, but hey, thats the fun in it! Right?

Late last night while everyone was asleep I snuck downstairs to grab something to eat and to begin downloading a movie (Insidious). I was sitting alone in the dark corner of the room and I heard a faded clicking/crackling behind me, I ignored it and assumed it was the house settling or the fridge re-setting (as it does multiple times each night), so continued what I was doing. The clicking became slightly louder and irritating, I turned around to see one of our kitchen lights slightly flickering. I stared at it for a bit and the clicking stopped, still flickering I turned back around to finish on the laptop. The clicking started again, I turned around. It stopped. I repeated this for a while and it kept doing the same thing. Only crackling when I wasn't looking. Fully creeped out now, I shut off the laptop and ran upstairs and got into bed.

Either I was imagining things but I didn't feel right when I was lying in bed. I didn't feel safe. I didn't want to sleep (which is unusual for me, I love sleep), I couldn't shut my eyes. I needed to stay awake. I can't really describe the feeling, but I was terrified. Was there someone there with me? Was I getting too caught up in my imagination?
