Thanks to the wonderful people at MoviePilot, I was able to attend Wizard World Comic Con in Philadelphia as a member of the press. So far, the biggest perk of this has been getting to talk with Michael Rooker!
Yep, that Michael Rooker! He was pretty busy doing... you know... Comic Con stuff, so I didn't get to spend a whole lot of time with him. But he was happy to walk and talk with me on his way to his photo op.
I met Mr. Rooker right after he helped cut the ceremonial ribbon, with Lou Ferrigno aka The Incredible Hulk, some of the Philadelphia Eagles Cheerleaders and Swoop (the Eagles mascot), to officially open up this Comic Con.
From the stage, we had about a 100-foot walk to his photo op. So I only had about a minute to ask him a few questions. Sorry guys, I didn't have time to get any details on Guardians of the Galaxy 2.
I did make the most of it though, and Mr. Rooker was very happy and willing to give me his time and answer all of my questions.
So here are the points that I got to ask Michael Rooker about:
What has it been like to play a major role in two of the biggest franchises around right now?
It's been nice... I've been able to pay the mortgage
Which of those two roles do you get recognized for more often?
Guardians of the Galaxy or The Walking Dead.... It's about 50/50
When you were filming Guardians of the Galaxy, did you have any idea how popular and successful it would be?
Absolutely not. We knew it was going to be good but we had no idea that it was going to be such a success.
Will Yondu be in Guardians of the Galaxy 2?
I do believe the powers that be have sort of indicated... yup. They are going to, you know, flush out the character a little more. So it's really cool.
How would Yondu handle the zombie apocalypse?
He'd get in his spaceship and leave!
Unfortunately, that was all I got to speak with Mr. Rooker about. I will say though, that if it was possible, he likely would have given me all the time I wanted. Also, not that we didn't expect it already, but he did kind of confirm that we will see Yondu in the Guardians sequel.
Really nice guy to talk to and a great way to start my four day Comic Con experience. There will be more to come in the next few days, including cosplay, celebrities, panels, general Comic-themed awesomeness and hopefully one more awesome interview.
