We've known for a while that the CW is adding a third series to the Arrow/Flash universe, and now the title and a few details have been revealed!

The show will be called "Legends of Tomorrow," which marks a change for the CW, as it marks a team up show, rather that one focusing on a single superhero.

Here's the synopsis:

When heroes alone are not enough ... the world needs legends. Having seen the future, one he will desperately try to prevent from happening, time-traveling rogue Rip Hunter is tasked with assembling a disparate group of both heroes and villains to confront an unstoppable threat — one in which not only is the planet at stake, but all of time itself. Can this ragtag team defeat an immortal threat unlike anything they have ever known?

While I'm more than a little bored of hearing teams described as "ragtag" (yawn) I'm thrilled about the rest of the synopsis!

First up, I'm excited to see some more time-travel coming to the DC TV universe: while the Reverse Flash timeline is amazing, I want to see more! Rip Hunter is a fantastic (and much lesser known) character, who manages his time travel through his intelligence rather than any superpower. I love it. The presence of Rip also means that we may well get to see his father Booster, who was the leader of Justice League International - personally, I would rather see something of a combination of the two roles; Rip Hunter as the leader of this new team, perhaps with some smaller references to Booster.

The other part of the synopsis that I cannot wait to see is that Rip's team will include both heroes and villains! I really enjoy seeing teams and storylines a little more complex than good vs evil, and it seems that this is going to deliver on that. It's always fascinating to see the interplay between the good and the bad guys when they are fighting for the same cause, to see them realize their similarities, and to see trust developing between unlikely friends. This is one of the reasons that I am such a fan of the Malcolm Merlyn storyline in Arrow, and I can't wait to see which villains will be joining forces with Captain Cold, Heatwave, Firestorm, ATOM and Hawkgirl (and presumably Black Canary, although we still don't know how Caity Lotz's version of the character can come back from the dead).

Finally, we are left wondering who or what the "immortal threat" is going to be - there is very little here in the synopsis that could give it away, and with this being an entirely new team (as far as I am aware, anyway!), there's really no precedent from the source material.

Who do you think the Legends of Tomorrow will be facing off against? Comment and let me know!
