Natalie portman hasn't been front and center in many films this year, it almost feels like she is absent from most movies but you will be interested to know that she will be starring in the western action thriller "Jane got a gun", a simple name for a simply great project. The film hasn't been highlighted very much on entertainment sites and doesn't get enough buzz to make people interested in it, keep in mind that none of this indicates that the film is poor-quality. Relativity media has been having difficulties trying to avoid bankruptcy which has greatly hindered this film and many of their other projects which are struggling to get produced or get released.

Here's the plot synopsis:

Jane Got a Gun" centers on Jane Hammond (Natalie Portman), who has built a new life with her husband Bill "Ham" Hammond (Noah Emmerich) after being tormented by the ultra-violent Bishop Boys outlaw gang. She finds herself in the gang’s cross-hairs once again when Ham stumbles home riddled with bullets after dueling with the Boys and their relentless mastermind Colin (Ewan McGregor). With the vengeful crew hot on Ham's trail, Jane has nowhere to turn but to her former fiancé Dan Frost (Joel Edgerton) for help in defending her family against certain destruction. Haunted by old memories, Jane’s past meets the present in a heart-stopping battle for survival.

The premise of the film is functional and interesting, but the real draw for this movie might be Natalie portman doing a western action film since it is so far from her usual genre of work. Portman doing a nitty gritty film like this is great since it shows that she is willing to branch out and take risks as an actor which in turn will make her movies more appealing. Joel Edgerton is also sharing the screen in this picture as the ex fiance of Portman's character and will help her fight off a ruthless outlaw and his gang. Portman and Edgerton have cemented themselves as dramatic actors but are able to transition from comedy to action with ease which greatly benefits this film. It's also intriguing to see Ewan McGregor as the main antagonist in the film since it will feel watching Padme fight Obi-wan ( couldn't resist making the reference). The film could get comfy at the box-office since the cast is great and since Gavin O. Connor is directing it and his films tend to due well critically and financially. Overall this film is a must-see if you are a fan of Westerns,Gavin O. Connor, or any of the actors starring in the film.
