If the wait has been long since Quentin Tarantino announced his next project, The Hateful Eight, it has been even longer since fans got to experience a Tarantino film, since Django Unchained in 2012. Luckily, the wait can be somewhat appeased with a quick peek into the new characters that showed up on the cover of Entertainment Weekly.
The photos give a broader view of the snowy western and the gritty characters played by: Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Channing Tatum, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Walton Goggins, Demián Bichir, Tim Roth and Michael Madsen.
The Hateful Eight is perfectly titled as it is Tarantino’s eighth film. Set in Wyoming after the Civil War, a group of bounty hunters are looking for a place of refuge from the upcoming blizzard. In their search for shelter they get involved in an ordeal of betrayal and death and suddenly the brutal cold might not be the only threat to their survival.
Tarantino said he was more inspired by shows like Bonanza and The Virgninian than actual western movies. The appeal was to have a bunch of outlaws in a room, unable to escape and see how their stories and dangerous backgrounds would play out.
‘What if I did a movie starring nothing but those characters? No heroes, no Michael Landons. Just a bunch of nefarious guys in a room, all telling backstories that may or may not be true. Trap those guys together in a room with a blizzard outside, give them guns, and see what happens.’
The Weinstein Company confirmed that filming had begun in January 2015, the shooting taking place completely in southwest Colorado. The release of The Hateful Eight is planned for November 13, 2015.
