For this article, I will be focusing on Captain America and Iron Man's side of SUPERHEROES. I will give my thoughts on the other characters soon.
With 'Age of Ultron' already out and 'Ant Man' on its way to its release in July, Marvel will soon be gearing up for the first Phase 3 Movie 'Captain America: Civil War' sometime this year. The official synopsis for the film reads:
“Captain America: Civil War” picks up where “Avengers: Age of Ultron” left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.
To simplify, the Avengers cause an an incident which most likely gets people killed, and the world's politics want to pass an act so superheroes can be watched over and have their team controlled by the government. Iron Man chooses to side with the government agreeing with them, while Captain America fights on the side of freedom for superheroes. The other heroes choose sides and a civil war breaks out. Now, after seeing 'Age of Ultron' and reading other articles, I've put together who I think will side with who in Civil War. So without any further ado..
Captain America's Team
I believe Captain America's Team will consist of Black Widow, the Falcon, Scarlet Witch, and the Winter Soldier, and here's why.
Black Widow (Natasha Romanoff)
This is one of a few easy predictions. Black Widow and Steve Rogers have developed a very close relationship throughout the time they've spent together working for S.H.I.E.L.D. We've seen them share many tender moments, specifically in ' The Winter Soldier'.
Besides their close friendship, she's a assassin. I don't think she'd be up for listening to what politicians have to say. When this civil war goes down, Steve can expect Natasha to have his back.
The Falcon (Sam Wilson)
This may be the easiest prediction of all. Being one of Steve's closest and most trustworthy friends, there's no doubt he'll be on Captain America's side. He was willing to risk his life to help Steve bring down S.H.I.E.L.D and help him look for his best friend Bucky Barnes. Joining the New Avengers, they'll develop and even stronger trust for each other.
Scarlet Witch (Wanda Maximoff)
Considering that Tony Stark is responsible for the death of her parents, and responsible for the psychotic AI that killed her brother, Wanda Maximoff will stand against the act alongside Captain America. She won't be out to kill Tony Stark anymore, but she'll definitely be holding a grudge against him for the second time.
The "international incident involving the Avengers" may have something to do with her considering she probably doesn't fully understand her own powers. Steve might then choose to come to her defense, gaining her trust and loyalty to him.
Winter Soldier (Bucky Barnes)
After saving Steve from his perishing, Bucky leaves to go somewhere. The search for him begins at the end of 'The Winter Soldier', then put on halt and referenced during 'Age of Ultron'. When he does reunite with Steve, he might be filled in on his life as he doesn't remember much of it. After becoming who he truly is, we will see the Winter Soldier become a strong ally to Captain America's team.
Iron Man's Team
Iron's Man Team will consist of War Machine, Vision, Hawkeye, and Ant Man for these reasons..
War Machine (James Rhodes)
Another obvious choice, Tony Stark's best friend James Rhodes will fight alongside Iron Man. Not only because he's using a piece of Stark technology, but he's also apart of the military. As a colonel in the U.S. Air Force, it's his duty to protect his country for the good of the people. If Tony Stark wanted to start propaganda, he could have Rhodes return to the Iron Patriot name.
This was a difficult decision. I thought the Vision would join Captain America, but after rewatching 'Age of Ultron', I've believe his being and his opinion on mankind give us the answers. The Vision is a being pure of heart and on the side of life, as proven when he lifts Mjolnir, Thor's hammer. Next up is his final conversation with Ultron. During their short chat, Ultron tells him that the human race is doomed, to which Vision agrees. Preserving mankind seems to be his main goal as of right now. A law passed to regulate Earth's heroes seems like something he'd be all for if it means protecting the people.
Hawkeye (Clint Barton)
Hawkeye could fall into either team. But, seeing that Hawkeye has a wife and three children, it would make sense for him to side with Iron Man and the government. A loving husband and father, his #1 priority is to protect his family. With the destruction we've seen the superheroes themselves cause, I can see Hawkeye having issues with them while he's trying to settle down.
Ant Man (Scott Lang)
To be honest with you, I don't have any reasons to why he'll join Tony Stark. With his first solo movie unreleased it's difficult to say. Perhaps the events of 'Ant Man' could sway him to join Tony Stark, but for now there's not much I can come up with at his time.
