Winning Best Supporting Actor at the Sunscreen Film Festival - which took place May 1-3 - for his performance as Bo "The Bully" Whitlaw in "The Martial Arts Kid" obviously made Matthew Ziff happy.
But one thing made him even happier.
That is when the film itself won an award at Sunscreen for Best Florida Film.
"This says a lot for 'The Martial Arts Kid'.... because it shows us that people are really enjoying the film and the work we put into it!", exclaims Ziff. "With these and the previous first prize award from World Fest Houston International Film Festival we received last month, 'The Martial Arts Kid' is making a big splash all over the place."
The film is co-headlined by martial arts/action-movie legends Cynthia Rothrock and Don "The Dragon" Wilson, who play aunt and uncle to the titular "Kid", played by Jansen Panettiere. Kathryn Newton plays his love interest and Ziff gives a memorable performance as the bully who torments him.
"The film is fantastic and I can't wait for a broader audience to see it and appreciate it for what it is", Ziff adds.
As for his own award at Sunscreen. Ziff is decidedly less talkative, preferring to talk about the film itself.
He did briefly sum up his feelings, however.
"I think for me personally taking home this award is really rewarding feeling because it shows me that the hard work I put into making the character such a strong force is noted and acknowledged", Ziff states.
"The Martial Arts Kid" is scheduled to hit theaters by the end of 2015.
