Konami suck. For the past few months, the way in which they've handled the controversy surrounding Hideo Kojima's impending departure from the company has been atrocious. We've seen them remove his name from the branding of the Metal Gear Solid series. We've heard rumours of the company making things difficult for employees in order to force them to leave on their own behalf. There's been limited access to company phones, emails, and a block on any interviews with gaming publications of any kind.
Konami is on lockdown as they've disbanded Kojima Productions entirely, amalgamating the entire gaming section of the company into one large group of developers - it seems they're getting ready to disband their gaming sector entirely. Allegedly, they no longer have teams working on individual games but rather everyone in the company is working on several projects at once. It sounds like hell, and I'm sure we're all dying for the story to finally break and gain some insight into what's really going on inside Konami.
Naturally though, the gaming world has focused in on Hideo Kojima. We've adored this man's games for years, and it's distressing to hear of the way in which he may be being treated. Did you guys see the Japanese game awards? Kojima was awarded two prizes for Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes, and one prize for the P.T. Demo. He was not in attendance, but not a single representative from Konami was there to collect the awards on his behalf.
What is wrong with them? It seems that the company doesn't care about how they are being perceived during these controversies - they look terrible! And gamers throughout the world will certainly remember their actions over these few months.
The Case of Silent Hills & the Infamous PT Demo
I really want to shun Konami forever due to their appalling handling of the Silent Hills game. They have been obtuse and merciless in the way that they've handled the entire affair. First we get a warning that the PT demo will be pulled from PSN. Then we hear that even if you've downloaded it, the game will not be available to re-download if you've deleted it in the past.
Konami also removed the shareplay function for the PT demo and it seems that one player even claimed that his whole PSN account is on lockdown due to the fact that he has the PT Demo installed. It's getting ridiculous and Konami are portraying themselves as an evil entity with complete and utter disdain for the gamers that have followed them for years. Where is the respect? This fiasco is also making me worried for digital games - discs all the way!
Silent Hills would have been an incredibly interesting game. However, I would have enjoyed ignoring it along with everything else Konami produce in the future due to their asinine and disrespectful handling of this whole affair. However, I won't be able to ignore them...because of the power of Hideo Kojima.
Has Your Excitement for Metal Gear Solid 5 Been Affected By Konami?
Hideo Kojima single-handedly demonstrated a power that I didn't know Video Games could possess. I'll never forget putting down my controller with the fight against Mantis and countless other moments of meta-genius that Kojima conjured up throughout the Metal Gear franchise. For this man alone, I'll be giving Konami one last purchase for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
Aside from all of these issues, we've been ensured that the production of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has not been affected by the change of management. The game is still being developed for its September 1st release date and it seems that all of these corporate issues are not affecting Kojima's development process. However, has Konami's handling of the situation affected your excitement for [Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain](tag:2683985)?
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Has My Support
I really want to shun Metal Gear Solid 5 for the way in which Konami killed Silent Hills so mercilessly and how they've disrespected Kojima and all the players that followed them for years throughout this affair. But I simply can't. I feel an obligation to support the final Metal Gear game that Kojima will produce and of course I'm dying to see how he's going to wrap up this dynamic series.
But I'd love to hear your take on all of this nonsense! Have you got the PT demo? I sure have and I'm not entirely sure what to do with it! Do you lament the loss of Silent Hills? Will you be picking up Metal Gear Solid 5 on its release date for the XBOX One, Xbox 360, PS3, PS4 or PC on September 1st? Let us know in the comments!
