Last year we heard the exciting/slight disconcerting news that British comedian Ricky Gervais would be reviving his most famous comic character, former Slough paper merchant regional manager, David Brent.

The project, titled Life On The Road, is expected to be mockumentary film which sees David Brent attempting to become successful as a touring musician. The idea appears to have originally stemmed from a series of web videos in which Brent - who now works as a sales rep for a toiletries supplier - attempts to teach guitar. The series spawned several, admittedly quite catchy, songs and sent Gervais on tour as David Brent. Check out one of the main belters below:

It seems Gervais is one step closer to bringing the project to fruition as he has just secured funding from BBC Films and Entertainment One. In a statement, Gervais claimed:

Iā€™m so excited that the world will see what David Brent is up to now and where his future lies. This film delves much more into his private life than The Office ever did and we really get to peel back the layers of this extraordinary, ordinary man.

Currently, there is no news on whether Gervais' The Office co-writer Stephen Merchant will also be involved on the project. From the looks of the statements we've seen, plus Gervais' more recent work, it seems unlikely that he will be.
