Today it was announced that Josh Boone will be directing an upcoming standalone spinoff of Fox's X-Men series, titled The New Mutants. The Fault In Our Stars director will also co-write the film with Knate Gwaltney.

Boone is a great choice on Fox's part, having worked with the studio before on The Fault In Our Stars, a film adaption of the book of the same name. He's also being looked at by Marvel and Sony for their Spider-Man reboot. The film is being described as "John Hughes meets Stephen King", meaning it has a horror or supernatural feel. It is also reportedly being based on the 1980's comic of the same name.

One question I have is—will Deadpool be involved?

Deadpool first appeared in 'New Mutants #98', albeit that issue was in the 90's rather than the 80's. Plus, his film will certainly come out before The New Mutants, so they won't be introducing him in the movie. But still, it'd be nice to see D-Pool make an appearance, it'd be a nod to the comic that started it all for the 'Merc With A Mouth'!

And with Deadpool's love for breaking the 4th wall, you know he'd notice what film he was in, and the irony of it all.

What do you think of The New Mutants getting a film? Do you want to see Deadpool pop up in it?
