Its official! Fox has confirmed that the X-Men spin off The New Mutants will be getting its own feature film. This is big news for anyone who is a fan of the X universe comics and it will be awesome to see a younger X team on the big screen. Critics of Bryan Singer rejoice, "Fault in Our Stars" Helmer Josh Boone is set to direct the film. The team includes Cable, Cannonball, Cypher, Domino, Gambit, Mirage, Warpath and many more young mutants hoping to one day become a full fledged X Team member. But there is one key character from The New Mutants universe that may be absent from the film however.

What About Deadpool?

No, Deadpool is not exactly a keystone as it pertains to the New Mutants, but he was a pretty big part in the story later in the original series. First appearing in New Mutants #98, the Merc with a Mouth instantly became a cult phenomenon. Some would even go as far to say that without Deadpool, we may not know The New Mutants as we do today. Ryan Reynolds is busy filming Deadpool's first solo film at the moment, but Fox owns the rights to the character so it may be likely that we will see Deadpool appear in the New Mutants universe. This is rather pretty awesome considering the fact that we might see Deadpool make an appearance in New Mutants as he had is first appearance almost 25 years ago in the comics.

What does this mean for the X Universe?

This is very big news for the X Universe. There have been rumors that Fox wants to Re-Boot the X-Men franchise after Age of Apocalypse and this isn't a bad start. The New Mutants are a very young team that could work wonders for Fox and the X-Men franchise for years to come. The New Mutants could definitely do well especially with younger viewers due to the fact that many High School age kids can easily relate to members of the team. Lets hope that it works out and we are given a true rendition if the New Mutants on the big screen that they deserve. This should be no issue however, as Fox has done a decent job with the X-Men films and with the recent films being absolutely spectacular, there is no doubt in my mind that they can pull it off.
