Before I even get into this article, thank you.
I had the very pleasant surprise of over 50k reads on my Disney fan casts! It means a lot to me that so many of you liked and shared my article, commented and voted, or even glanced at it at all.
Hoping to keep this trend going strong - my Disney Hercules fan cast!
This is literally the first fan cast I've ever written down. Now, I've revamped it and I'm ready to share it with the world!
I'm setting this article up a bit differently than I usually do; I'd had so many choices I loved that half of this fan cast is split down the middle. I'll try to keep this explanation as simple as possible. The choices I've made with two choices will be marked with #1 and #2. All of the choices with the #1 next to them, I've imagined them together as one cast and vice verse with #2. All of the ones without numbers are in both versions of my fan cast. Any confusion? Leave me a comment!
Let's get started!
#1 - Liam Hemsworth, #2 - Chris Evans
I think everyone can agree that these two are some of Hollywood's pretty boys. Liam's got the broody, emotional bit down and Chris is practically playing this version of Hercules with Captain America. Both characters have big hearts and a need for 'justice'. I aimed for youngest and younger; Herc isn't too old in the film and I figured having choices a little apart in age from each other would be helpful to everyone.
Who's your favorite Hercules?
#1 - Miley Cyrus, #2 - Emilia Clarke
I'll admit that, at first, I only chose Miley because I thought it would be funny to have the two (very popular) exes play love interests on-screen. Then I thought about it some more; Miley isn't a terrible actress and she's got all that spunk. You know, if she wore a wig, Liam and her already have chemistry. And Emilia is just a fantastic actress, and her and Chris are close(ish) in age.
Phil - Danny DeVito
The only Phil I'd be happy with. Danny is a wonderfully, brilliant actor and Phil is one of my favorite characters he's ever played. Anyone who's ever seen Hercules will know that Danny was one of the best things about the movie.
#1 - Chris Hemsworth, #2 - Patrick Warburton
Chris I chose because, ya know, he's the older Hemsworth and why not? He's part of my 'younger' choices, and I tried to mix up some of my older and younger choices. Which is where Patrick comes in. Patrick has such a distinct, great voice that would do Rip Torn's Zeus justice.
#1 - Emmy Rossum, #2 - Lena Headey
Emmy has such a tremendous beauty to her that's very elegant, I think it would suit well to the mother-of-all-gods character. And, c'mon now, Lena Headey? She's played the 'elegant', top bitch quite a few times. Hera would be a breeze for her, and I know she would be excellent.
How about your fav Hera?
Hades - James Wood
James, as any Hercules buff would know, turned the originally cynical Hades into the sassy fire-ball he's known to be. I don't know if anyone could live up to the brilliance of the performance done by James.
#1 - Colin Mochrie, #2 - Josh Peck
I've picked famous, comedic duos to play Pain and Panic. Starting with Pain, I picked Colin, who did many years on Whose Line Is It Anyway?, and has fantastic comedic timing. He's usually the brunt of the joke, much like Josh. Josh, who spent a lot of his life on Nickelodeon, knows a thing or two about comedy. So, of course, that leads me to their second halves....
#1 - Ryan Stiles, #2 - Drake Bell
Ryan and Drake! These two, with their counterparts, are hilarious. Everyone has heard of Drake and Josh, and those two are so close, it was a no-brainer for me to have them be one of my choices for Pain and Panic. Any fans of Whose Line would know that Colin and Ryan are the absolute best together - I've never laughed so hard in my life!!
Alcmene - Nia Vardalos
It was pretty important for me, after casting a bunch of white a-listers, to get a ton of Greek people, whether they are fully Greek or otherwise. Which is where Nia comes in; firstly, she's incredibly talented and hasn't had much screen time. She's got this soft aura to her, which would lend itself to playing a mother, especially Alcmene who adopted baby Herc.
Amphitryon - Hank Azaria
Then, for the loving father role, Hank. He's also Greek and extremely talented. He's done a range of voice-acting and has also played quite a range of characters. It's a perfect choice.
Hermes - Seth MacFarlane
Hermes in Hercules is the jokester, which made me want to go with a comedian. Now, Seth has quite the dry humor which would go well with the angle the writers went with on Hermes.
Narcissus - Matt Bomer
Are you kidding me? Pretty boy Matt is the perfect Narcissus. He's definitely played the 'I'm-hot-and-I-know-it' character and it's fitting.
Demetrius (pot maker) - Wayne Knight
Wayne did the voice for Demetrius, and I think he kinda looks like his character. So why not? He's a phenomenal actor who could lend his talents for a previous character.
Muses (Calliope, Melpomene, Clio, Terpsichore, Thalia) - Queen Latifah, Alicia Keys, Beyonce Knowles, Raven Symone, Amber Riley
Calliope - Queen Latifah
Melpomene - Alicia Keys
Clio - Beyonce Knowles
Terpsichore - Raven Symone
Thalia - Amber Riley
I also posted these choices in my Bonus Disney casting! Go check 'em out!
Favorite Muse choice?
#1 - Ian McKellen, #2 - Morgan Freeman
The Narrator isn't a huge role in the movie, so I wanted to make it a memorable one. Both Ian and Morgan have such incredible voices and they aren't usually used as narrators, though their voices are used because they're so dynamic. Honestly, I only put numbers down for them because I had more than one choice, but if either got the role, I'd be an ecstatic girl :D
Aphrodite - Izabella Miko
Okay, look at Izabella's face then at the screen grab from Hercules. Done.
Ares - Dave Bautista
I wanted a really big, intimidating guy for Ares and right now, as an actor, Dave is massive and totally able to play Ares.
Artemis - Kate Beckinsale
Kate's got a bangin' bod and she's got this loud elegance to her. Selene, her Underworld character, is smart and a total badass hunter - Artemis. Boom.
#1 - Jaimie Alexander, #2 - Angie Harmon
I can't begin to describe how beautiful both Jaimie and Angie are. They both play badass women in their respective, current, projects (Thor and Rizzoli & Isles). Jaimie even already plays a god - a complete no-brainer.
Choose wisely. (See what I did there? Athena and wise?? ...nevermind)
Dionysus - John Stamos
John is Greek and a total hottie. Dionysus (Bacchus for the movie, ugh. Greek vs Roman, amirite?) is a big party-er, and so why not cast someone who looks like they belong at all parties ever thrown?
Hephaestus - Michael Chiklis
In Greek mythos, Heph is the rejected ugly child who eventually marries Aphrodite. He's a mechanic/builder. No diss to Michael, not ugly, just has something to be the odd-one-out, ya know?
That's it for now, lovelies. Any suggestions? Characters I should've added? Another fan casting idea? Leave me a comment!!
