Watching a Disney movie is a totally magical experience, for 90 minutes you can forget all about the real world and immerse yourself in the magical world that is the life of a Disney princess.
When I watched Disney films as a kid I always imaged the princess characters as someone much older and wiser than I was, someone who was much more equipped to deal with the harrowing situations and circumstances placed before many of them. However, having recently found out the ages of the Disney princesses, I have to say I was shocked at how young some of them are!
Take a look through the ages of our royal ladies and see if any of them surprise or shock you — especially when you remember some of the events from the films the appeared in:
14 Years Old: Snow White
Not only is she the fairest, but Snow White is also the youngest out of our gaggle of Disney gals at just 14-years-old!
What makes it a little unsettling is that young, frightened Snow White is basically used for her free (child) labor by the seven dwarves in order to be allowed to stay in the cottage in the woods. It all works out in the end though, with the dwarves becoming her friend, and then she is awoken by 'love's first kiss' by the prince who then takes her away to the castle — wait a minute, is it just me or does that all seem a little weird now considering her age?
15 Years Old: Jasmine
Jasmine is our second youngest princess at 15, and at that tender age she already had to think about being married by her next birthday! Luckily for her (I guess?), she was already being pursued by Aladdin in disguise as Prince Ali, as well as having Jafar trying for force the Sultan into arranging a marriage between the two, wow! Despite her young age, the idea of a magic carpet ride for a first date is still pretty romantic.
16 Years Old: Merida, Aurora, Ariel and Mulan
The sweet 16-year-olds have a few bad-asses in their midst, including Merida the Scottish princess well versed in archery, and the utterly awesome Mulan — there can't be too many 16-year-olds who would go selflessly into battle for their families! Curious and adventurous, Ariel is definitely your more typical 16-year-old, getting on the wrong side of her father and making potentially poor decisions in order to be closer to a boy she fell in love with. Aurora, on the other hand, has a much bigger burden to bear than your average teenage, being cursed to die (thankfully later changed to fall into an almost unbreakable sleep) on her 16th birthday when she pricks her finger on a spinning wheel, thank goodness for prince Phillip! Finally there's our newest addition, pacific princess Moana, navigator of the high seas and returner of Te Fiti's heart.

17 Years Old: Belle
Belle is our one 17-year-old princess who ends up marrying the 21-year-old Beast/Prince Adam after being trapped in the castle. Whether or not you think 17 is too young to be married, Belle certainly seems like a typical 17-year-old with big dreams of escaping her small village, and finally using all the knowledge she's gained over the years from books and her father, Maurice, to have a big adventure — which she certainly got!
18 Years Old: Pocahontas, Anna and Rapunzel
Despite the real Pocahontas being just 12 years old when a 27-year-old John Smith encountered her tribe, I think it was a very smart idea to make the Disney version of her 18-years-old, especially considering her (fictionalized) relationship with John Smith!
As well as Pocahontas, Anna and Rapunzel are both 18 (though Rapunzel is 20 years old when she marries a 28-year-old Eugene in the Tangled short film), though considering how much of an isolated upbringing they have both had, they do seem a little young for their age.
19 Years Old: Cinderella and Tiana
Now moving onto the older teens, we have Cinderella and Tiana who are not only the same age but both also dream of the same thing: making a better life for themselves. Cinderella finds her happiness with her true love Prince Charming, and Tiana triumphs not just when she and Naveen are married, but when she finally opens her dream restaurant at just 19! What a boss.
21 Years Old: Elsa
The oldest of the Disney princesses is not even a princess anymore but a queen! Elsa is 21-years-old and was the first Disney princess to have a coronation in a film, giving her the title of Queen of Arendelle. Despite the small hiccup of turning her entire kingdom into a wintery wasteland, thanks to her younger sister and their bond the winter soon melted away and Queen Elsa could rule safely over the masses.
