While we're still a year away from Fox's trifecta of 2016 X-Men films (X-Men: Apocalypse, Deadpool and Gambit), the future of the franchise is becoming more clear. We just learned that The Fault In Our Stars director Josh Boone has signed a deal to co-write and direct a New Mutants movie, one that will debut a new generation of mutant heroes and here are 5 ways it will help the X-Men franchise to become even more strong:
1. The New Mutants
The New Mutants is a group of teenage mutant superheroes-in-training published by Marvel Comics. They have been the main characters of three successive comic book series, which were spin-offs of the X-Men franchise. With New Mutants officially getting a movie we'll see more than X-Men. New Mutants, new abilities, new characters & new stories. The New Mutants are in itself very diverse and differentiated even from each other.
2. The Villains
The New Mutants faced their own challenges while the X-Men were off saving the world. The series focused a great deal on the team's interpersonal conflicts and general teenage angst. New Mutants was often a more surreal and psychological counterpoint to Uncanny X-Men, particularly during the period when writer Chris Claremont collaborated with artist Bill Sienkiewicz (widely regarded as the book's golden age). The New Mutants dealt with everything from giant, demonic bears to hidden Amazonian civilizations. The New Mutants will expand the cinematic version for mutants forever.
3. Contract Renewal
The New Mutants movie, be it in past or present will have first Charles Xavier, Professor X as their mentor. In comics, Professor X formed the group of teenage mutants New Mutants and eventually made his old friend Erik, Magneto the headmaster for New Mutant. New Mutants movie will obviously renew the contract for Professor X but the version (old or young) is unknown. In the first movie we will see only of Professor X forming the teenage group and mentoring them but we hope Magneto to take over the teenage group at sometime.
The original series didn't end so much as it transitioned into a new form. Rob Liefeld took over the New Mutants comic in 1989 and drastically overhauled the book's tone and focus. He introduced the gun-toting cyborg Cable as their new mentor and the wise-cracking mercenary Deadpool. He transformed the New Mutants into a more proactive and militant team. Eventually these heroes came of age and graduated. Cable can be introduced in the X-Men universe through New Mutants, who is already expected by fans in May 2016, [X-Men: Apocalypse](tag:1194267).
5. Set-up for X-Force
X-Force's first leader was the mutant Cable. Fans have been waiting long for the X-Force movie and New Mutants movie can help to establish the X-Force. Cable after mentoring New Mutants joined X-Force. The X-Force, in fact was originally a revamped version of the 1980s team, the New Mutants.
However there's hasn't been any word for the release of the movie. Is there any way New Mutants will help X-Men? Share with below:
