On Saturday 16th of May, I along with many others got the chance to attend the opening night of Side Quest - Welcome to Rapture, a BioShock themed party to welcome the new weekly geek and gaming bar event. Drinking Adam and Eve shots, listening to the music that made the underwater city so memorable, and rocking gear so fancy that it would make Andrew Ryan proud, the good folks at Beta Bar gave us a night to remember...without the threat of Big Daddies and Splicers, or actually being underwater.
Side Quest was a true gamer's heaven, games, gamers and gaming music throughout the venue - not to mention the BioShock theme that was woven through the event, with people dressing up in suits and dresses, cosplaying Little Sisters and Splicers, the BioShock soundtrack playing throughout the night, and the bar serving Adam and Eve shots in cool syringes! Wii U and Xbox consoles were surrounded by comfy couches and many controllers, allowing gamers to sit back, relax and enjoy the company of other gamers over a drink and a few games of Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart 8, Mortal Kombat X and Street Fighter IV (and a few other indie games). Side Quest, staying true to the Beta Bar roots, allowed geeks and gamers alike to meet and socialise over some of their favourite games.
Overall, I had a fantastic night of getting absorbed in the BioShock theme that Side Quest set up, as well as getting my butt handed to me in a few games with some pretty fantastic people. I honestly can't wait for the next Side Quest event... which is the Battle Arena Melbourne 7 After Party on the May 23rd! For all you fighting game fans out in Melbourne, Australia, you should definitely head on over to Side Quest for some casual games and a chance to hang with the international stars of the BAM7 tournament.
