It's been a while since EA and DICE unveiled the reveal trailer for Star Wars: Battlefront. Therefore, I think we've all had a bit of time to calm down about it and think a bit more objectively concerning everything we've seen and heard so far. In terms of features, for many, Star Wars: Battlefront feels as if DICE have taken a significant step back in comparison with Star Wars: Battlefront 2.
I totally understand where they're coming from, however we have yet to see any gameplay from the upcoming reboot and DICE, along with EA, have yet to reveal a great deal of aspects of the game - that's what events like E3 are for. But in terms of what has been confirmed, what's really missing from Star Wars: Battlefront for you in terms of gameplay?
Star Wars: Battlefront & its Gameplay Features
For starters, we learned that Star Wars: Battlefront will be a purely multiplayer game - which I guess a lot of us saw coming. There will be certain missions available that we can play out against bots alone, but the main focus of the game will be its online warfare. So with no campaign, I was worried that local play was going to be the next feature to get the axe. Thankfully, DICE have confirmed that we'll be able to play Star Wars: Battlefront on the couch with a friend - nice one.
Over all, we're aware that Battlefront has 12 maps for us all to go crazy on. The maps are located on Hoth, Endor, Tatooine, and the previously unplayed location of Sullust. We'll also get to play the battle of Jakku in the form of free DLC. This location will appear in [Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens](tag:711158), which I can't fricken wait for! But aside from all that we have, what have we lost?
We have Speeder bikes and snow speeders, we can pilot an AT-ST, an AT-AT, TIE Fighters, X-Wings, and even the Millennium Falcon. We can take control of Darth Vader, Boba Fett, encounter C-3PO & R2D2, and we'll definitely have a lot more playable heroes announced in the future. We also have no classes, which I think is a fantastic idea, along with the traditional options of both first and third-person.
But ladies and gentleman, why are there no space battles? Is it going to be paid DLC along the road? Or are DICE and EA trying to build up the franchise again and perhaps include them in the new Star Wars: Battlefront 2? The latter seems more likely as they are going to have to carefully dole out the gameplay features if they want us to keep coming back for more. This is the biggest hit for Star Wars: Battlefront in my opinion, however, it's not a deal-breaker.
DICE still have a lot more to tell us about the game and I can't wait to see what the gameplay looks like at E3. But with everything that we know about this blockbuster title, what are you really missing in comparison with the incredible Star Wars: Battlefront 2? Be sure to let us know what you hope DICE announce in the coming months prior to the release date of [Star Wars: Battlefront](tag:2684021) for the PS4, XBOX One, and PC.
