The Disney theme parks make a lot of money. But have you ever wondered just how much money they're making per day, or even per hour? In short...it's a lot. But thanks to BroadBandBlue.com we can get a lot more specific. Like, down to the second, specific.
When you click on the site, it takes you to a page that calculates just how much the Disney parks are making, even letting you break it down into how much each area of the park makes. So just to see how much the Disney parks are rolling in, I'm going to use the revenue counter to see how much money Disneyland (sorry, just Disneyland and California Adventure for this article) has made in the time it's taken me to do arbitrary things in my life:
Making and eating lunch
Time: 27 minutes
Disneyland's revenue: $144,439
From standing up empty-handed to having a bowl of food in front of me, Disneyland earned a whopping $144,439! To be fair, this was a quick steamer bag so it didn't take too long. Also, the bag of vegetables did not make a filling meal so I went in for some cake that was leftover at the office on Monday. While I did all of that, Disney made over $100k.
Brewing and drinking a cup of coffee while pondering the meaning of life
Time: 33 minutes
Disneyland's revenue: $176,537
I have Keurig so it didn't take very long to make the actual cup of coffee (probably only a few thousand dollars worth of Disneyland time), but I did have to wait for it to cool before allowing myself to sip freely, which ultimately added to their revenue counter. Also, thinking about the meaning of life took a bit longer than your normal daydream. In that time of doing virtually nothing, Disney made a cool $176 thousand.
Picking up my car from the mechanic
Time: 1 hour, 34 minutes
Disneyland's revenue: $502,862
I've had some car troubles for the past week so I took my car into the shop on Friday morning. In the time it took me to leave work, drive to the shop, pay them an exorbitant amount of money, and arrive home, Disneyland made over half a million dollars. That's over a decade's worth of salary for a lot of people!
Brushing my teeth
Time: 2 minutes, 30 seconds
Disneyland's revenue: $13, 375
I use a timer every morning and night to clock a full 2:30 of brushing time. For me, that time means clean teeth, fresh breath, and healthy gums. For Disneyland, it means earning over $13,000!
Watching 3 episodes of Parks and Recreation
Time: 1 hour, 6 minutes
Disneyland's revenue: $353,073
When my day comes to a close and I get all settled in, it's time to turn on some Netflix. In the time it took me to watch three (far fewer than normal, if I'm being honest) episodes of Parks and Recreation, the California based Disney parks raked in over $350,000.
According to the Moviepilot word counter, this post should take about 1 minute and 52 seconds to read. Based on that number, in the brief amount time that it's taken you to read this article the California based Disney parks have made $9,095! Pretty crazy, huh?
In short, Disneyland makes an absolutely absurd of money from their parks, but as a relatively frequent attendee, I can say with confidence that they've earned what they make.
