Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is pretty much already a superhero, but could he potentially play one? The DC Cinematic Universe is somewhat jam-packed with new movies coming out, but the question on some people's minds - specifically, The Rock fans - is... what ever happened to that aborted Lobo movie?
Well, it appears we kind of, sorted of, may have the answer.
At the press junket for San Andreas, the movie's director Brad Peyton told ComingSoon.net about his aborted attempt to direct a Lobo film (the awesome anti-hero from the comics) which was supposed to star Dwayne Johnson. Of course, Johnson is also appearing in DC Entertainment's Shazam.
Here's what Peyton had to say about the halted situation:
“I think what’s happening with DC is that they have prioritized what they need to make first in order to kind of lay the foundations for the DC Universe. This is what I believe is happening just from what they’ve been taking about. They’re talking about Justice League, Batman v Superman, and going into Flash, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman. Those are kind of the pillars of that universe.”
"I think there’s going to be a really amazing time for Lobo and I think people are going to realize, certainly once they revisit it, what they’re sitting on. But you never know. I’m really happy with the project and where we got it and fingers crossed it comes to fruition at some point.”
You can't really blame DC for tabling the Lobo movie, simply due to the fact that they have a lot slated to come out in the not-so-distant future.
It seems unlikely that they'll be able to squeeze in a Lobo flick with all of these on the horizon... especially when The Rock is supposed to be involved with Shazam.
All I know is, DC is in pretty big need of a hit. Here's to [Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice](tag:711870) hopefully getting the wheels back in motion so that the rest of these can come out and be just as awesome as DC hopes!
