After several attempts to make the classic film Mad Max in 2003 and again in 2009, writer director George Miller finally succeeds in bringing us a reboot of the action- adventure-thriller, Mad Max, Fury Road. The time is somewhere in the future and the earth has been transformed into a toxic wasteland. People are scrounging for the basic necessities of life. In the hostile environment of Australia, lives a man named Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy) who lost his wife and child after the apocalyptic destruction of most of the planet. There is also a gang called the “War Boys” led by a ruthless thug named Immortal Joe (Hugh Keys-Byrne) who rules the region by controlling water he has found in the mountains. One of the gang members named Nux (Nicholas Hoult) needs blood so they kidnap Max and use him as a human blood bag. (My wife said this is something you have to see to appreciate.) In the meantime, a bald woman with a robotic arm named Imterator Furiosa (Charlize Theron) is a lieutenant of the War Boys and she is sent out to acquire more bullets and gasoline. (Yes, you heard that correctly a woman in the War Boys) Several miles down the road she goes AWOL and heads to “the green place” where she was born. Of course, the War Boys don’t like that and go after her in their armored cars, trucks, and motorcycles. They take Max with them and along the way Max and Imterator are able to team up and fight the War Boys together. Yes, this is an action junkie's dream with almost 2 hours of non-stop action. (Not so great for a blind guy.) My wife said after the first half hour she was exhausted and needed a break. The music is heart pounding and intense which helped with the small story that was written around the action. (Isn't that backward?) None of this matters since everybody enjoyed it - including (to my surprise) my wife. The unexpected pleasure of this film was Charlize Theron who was outstanding. There are plans for another Mad Max and I can't imagine it without her. I’m giving this fast paced action film a B rating.

Although I am blind, I can appreciate a good movie as well as sighted individuals. I rely more on a good story line than special effects. Visit my website at: blindsidereviews.com
