It looks like things are well into production on the set of Ash vs Evil Dead, the upcoming Starz series that will follow the beloved protagonist as he just can't seem to escape the forces of evil.

It's been 30 years, and Ash has spent most of that time putting off all responsibility (including eradicating the Evil Dead) until a Deadite plague forces him into action. Either he takes up the chainsaw again, or all of mankind is doomed. Really the worst case scenario for anyone who's just trying to chill.

Now, we've gotten our first image of the Necronomicon, the book that's comprised of blood letters and fleshy binding that starts every Dead-fueled mess, and it only confirms the reality of this awesome project.

And here it is straight from director Michael J. Bassett!

Admittedly not the best lighting, but you can still make out that grimace made of skin. Once again, it looks like a book that no one should pick up and say, "Let's try this out for a fun weekend indoors." In other words, I think it'll get the job done.

Ash vs Evil Dead will premiere later this year and star Bruce Campbell, Lucy Lawless, Ray Santiago, Dana DeLorenzo, and Jill Marie Jones.
