This week two of the most anticipated movies of the summer opened against each other, but which came out on top?

Here are the TOP 5 movies at the Domestic Box Office this past weekend:

1) PITCH PERFECT 2 - $70.3 Million

Yes, like a lot of us expected, the highly anticipated Pitch Perfect 2 was number 1 this weekend with a very impressive $70 Million. I was expecting around $65 Million so the movie actually did better than I imagined. In terms of its critical success, it currently has a 68% Critic Rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is a decent score. It certainly pleased fans, you can check out my review here. Worldwide Pitch Perfect 2 has grossed $108.4 Million.

2) MAD MAX: FURY ROAD - $44.4 Million

Arguably the better film at the movies this weekend was the incredible Mad Max: Fury Road which has gone above and beyond in terms of its critical acclaim, currently sitting at an amazing 98% on Rotten Tomatoes with over 200 reviews. I absolutely loved the film, its definitely my favorite of the year so far, you can check out my review here. $44 Million on an opening weekend is still impressive, of course it doesn't have as large of an audience as Pitch Perfect 2, with it being Rated R and the fourth entry in a cult classic action series.

But, impressively Mad Max: Fury Road has the edge on Pitch Perfect 2 at the Worldwide Box Office, as it stands at $109.4 Million, just a hair over Pitch Perfect 2's worldwide gross. The film had a budget of around $150 Million so hopefully it will continue to make money due to good word of mouth and lets pray that we get a sequel in the next few years.

3) AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON - $38.8 Million

The biggest movie of the Summer, Avengers: Age Of Ultron, has now passed the inevitable $1 Billion milestone. Making it the third film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to pass that line. Much of this will be due to repeat viewings, which is definitely worth it for this very entertaining film. Age Of Ultron is the highest grossing domestic film of 2015, surpassing Furious 7 which stands at $343 Million in the US alone whilst Age Of Ultron is currently at $372 Million. Age Of Ultron is now the 8th highest grossing film of all time, just behind Iron Man 3 and Frozen, I expect to surpass those films in the next few weeks. Age Of Ultron - Movie Review.

4) HOT PURSUIT - $5.7 Million

The new Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara comedy hasn't done well at all critically, it sits at a rotten 6% on Rotten Tomatoes and has only made $24 Million worldwide on a $35 Million budget. The movie will probably break even when it opens up in the UK etc later this Summer.

5) PAUL BLART: MALL COP 2 - $3.6 Million

And rolling into the number 5 spot, is arguably the worst movie of 2015 so far, Paul Blart Mall Cop 2. Now sitting at $94 Million on a $30 Million budget, so don't be surprised if we get a third entry into this terrible series.
