In order for any individual or character to be a true hero, he or she must have a worthy adversary and in some comics this is certainly the case. Without the presence of cunning, powerful, cruel and entertaining villains any superhero story would just be boring. However, no villains are created equal, so here are the best rogue galleries in comics:
P.S. Do you dis/agree with my list?! Share your opinion in the comment section below and thank you for reading!
5. Fantastic Four
Most notable villains: Dr Doom, Galactus, Super-Skrull, Mole Man, Ronan, Annihilus, Grandmaster, Ego, Terrax, Owl, Pupper Master, Psycho-Man, Namor the Sub-Mariner, Frightful Four, The Mad Thinker, Molecule Man
The genius inventor and sorcerer Dr. Doom is enough to put the Fantastic Four's rogue gallery by himself on this list. However, with the presence of other despicable, immensely powerful and creative villains such as Galactus, Annihilus, Super-Skrull and the Frightful Four, this collection of villains definitely deserves its place among the best rogue galleries in comics.
Most notable villains: Magneto, Apocalypse, Onslaught, Mr. Sinister, Mastermind, Mystique, Sabretooth, Stryfe, Random, William Stryker, Dark Beast, Post, Toad, Harry Leland, Pyro, Omega Red, Spyne, Gauntlet, Mister X, Bolivar Trask, Lady Deathstrike, Fatale, Master Mold, Daken, Blob, Sauron
The X-Men have a very large collection of powerful as well as deep villains and for this reason their rogue gallery finds its place on this list.
However, even if they had only one amazing villain - Magneto, I would have still considered them because he is just such a wonderful character. It is so interesting how he virtually fights for the same cause as the X-Men, but because he uses a lot different and cruel means, he is a villain.
3. The Flash
Most notable villains: Captain Cold, Reverse-Flash/Zoom, Gorilla Grodd, Weather Wizard, Mirror Master, Rag Doll, Murmur, Shade, Kilg%re, Cicada, Magenta, Black Flash, Trickster (Jesse), Pied Piper, Heat Wave, Abra Kadabra, Golden Glider, The Key, Peek-a-Boo, Turtle
The Flash's villains are definitely some of the most unique out there. Inspired by science, his villains are very colorful and distinctive, as well as menacing.
Despite the fact that, this rogue gallery might seem a bit unorthodox and cheesy from the outset (for example look at the names of the villains), the truth is that The Flash's villains are extremely intelligent, amusing and diverse.
Most notable villains: Green Goblin, Venom, Dr. Octopus, Kraven, The Lizard, Kingpin, Carnage, Harry Osborne, Hobgoblin, Scorpion, Electro, Vulture, Mysterio, Chameleon, Rhino, Shocker, Morbius, Hydroman, Hammerhead, Alistair Smythe, Sandman, Jackal, Morlun, Juggernaut, J. Jonah Jameson
Spider-Man's villains are definitely the coolest ones in the Marvel Universe. The common theme between the majority of his villains is that their powers originate from scientific accidents, tend to have animal-themed costumes or powers, and are nearly all male.
However, the fact that they are kinda stereotypical does not take away one bit from their awesomeness. In addition, arguably the most famous villain team-up in comics - The Sinister Six is a part of Spider-Man's rogue gallery, so their presence is another argument in favor of the Wall Crawler's archenemies.
Most notable villains: Joker, Ra's Al Ghul, Scarecrow, Bane, Two-Face, Catwoman, Penguin, Harley Quinn, Mr.Freeze, The Riddler, Deadshot, Killer Croc, Hugo Strange, Mad Hatter, Hush, Victor Zsasz, Poison Ivy, Anarky, Black Mask, Calendar Man, Ventriloquist (Wesker), Doctor Hurt
Batman might be a universally loved and acclaimed character, but this is owed to no small part to his enduring and well-recognizable rogue gallery.
The most interesting thing about The Caped Crusader's villains is that they represent what might have become of him if he had chosen the wrong path. Whether, he would have fallen into complete madness, destruction and chaos (The Joker, Harley Queen), became completely obsessed with something (The Riddler, Victor Zsasz) or just became and indecent man (The Penguin, Black Mask), most of his adversaries are an embodiment of this point,
In Batman's villains are extremely diverse, conniving and complex emotionally and it is hardly a surprise that his rogue gallery earns the first place on this list.
