Titanfall was a really fascinating and pretty brave game on its Xbox One release date in 2014. The two guys that created Respawn Entertainment had previously worked on the Call of Duty franchise with Activision. However, after being fired following a case of apparent insubordination, they went on to create their own studio with a whole team of people leaving Activision to join them on their new mission: Titanfall.
For a while, it was the only good game that you could get on the Xbox One, and in fact I still think it's one of the consoles strongest games. However, now that the likes of Advanced Warfare and Black Ops 2 have followed in Titanfall's giant footprints, the team at Respawn Entertainment are going to have to up their game in order to compete with a lot of other shooters.
Titanfall 2 has been announced as their next project, though it's no longer an Xbox One and PC exclusive. With the PS4 joining in on the titan action, Respawn are now going to have to ensure that their brand can cater to players who've never had the chance to play Titanfall before. It was an early release for the Xbox One, at a time where a lot of us were still holding back from moving over to NextGen. They'll have to work extremely hard to catch our attention.
Titanfall 2 - The One Thing it Needs on Release Date for Xbox One & PS4
Therefore, what is it that Respawn Entertainment need to bring to this new battlefield on its release date? Do we need larger maps, or more variations in online modes? Or perhaps a campaign with a gripping story will be enough for them? Personally, I'm not even sure that one singular improvement is going to be enough for Titanfall 2 to succeed on Xbox One and PS4.
Titanfall was actually nominated for a lot of awards, including a BAFTA Game Award for Innovation. It's awesome to see such a small developer that rebelled against a company like Activision do so well with their first IP. They clearly worked extremely hard on the project and thought up some really creative ways to reinvent the shooter genre. But Titanfall 2 is going to have to build upon a now well established formula.
An offline mode would certainly help Titanfall 2 cater to those that love to engage with a story, even though the team at Respawn were clearly set on making Titanfall a multiplayer shooter from the beginning. But we certainly need to see more variety in terms of game modes and maps. I felt like I new everything Titanfall could give me within its first week, which may be why the game doesn't have a great online community right now.
But what about you guys? I think Titanfall 2 will have to improve upon everything it gave us in the last game and possibly even introduce another cool mechanic on top of calling in Titans. We shall have to wait and see what Respawn have in mind for the XBOX One and PS4 release date. Be sure to let us know what you think Titanfall 2 needs in the comments below!
