So Marvel's been dragging their feet on a potential Black Widow movie with Natasha Romanoff, AKA Scarlett Johansson. Well, that's a damn shame.
Black Widow states in [The Avengers: Age Of Ultron](tag:293035) that she was brought up and trained in the Soviet Union's infamous "Red Room." According to the awesomeness that is Wikipedia:
The Red Room (Красная комната) is one of the K.G.B.'s espionage training programs, which plays a critical role in Black Widow’s life. For decades the Red Room had been a Cold War facility to train female spies known as Black Widows. The Red Room wasn't only a training facility, but, in certain stories, employs biochemical enhancements for its agents and also implants them with false memories reminiscent of those used by the Weapon Plus Program...the Red Room recruits 28 orphan girls to raise them to become undetectable deep-cover agents to infiltrate China and the West...These girls are made to believe that they were trained in ballet at the Bolshoi Theater.
The earliest--movie chronologically-- the Red Room appeared in the MCU was in Agent Carter, in the guise of highly-trained psychopath Dottie Underwood, 1946.
In the Red Room, decades apart, young girls like Natasha and Dottie are trained to be Soviet killing machines...
And, apparently, their fighting styles haven't changed much in 70 years. But still very effective.
So what would a MCU-style movie about Black Widow be about? Well, we start in the Red Room. And a time machine (metaphorically speaking, of course).
Natasha Romanoff is recruited into the Black Widow program/Red Room because of a natural aptitude towards spycraft and martial arts, as well as her famous last name in Russia.
They are trained to be killers from a young age...
Handcuffed to bed so they won't escape and to instill future habits...
Made to kill friends and other brutal acts...
Will Natasha also be trained by the HYDRA-controlled Winter Soldier, then have her memory wiped? I mean, she doesn't remember the assassin. See that red star on his shoulder?
And, much like American football players, the potential Black Widows are also trained as ballet dancers. To help with grace and agility. After all, Dottie stated her profession was as a ballet dancer. Natasha's background story included modeling in Iron Man 2.
Learning to shoot weapons, sexpionage, and other spy stuff.
At the completion of her training, she is sterilized. Having a baby could impact a mission or the actions of the operative. After the Maximoff's attack in AOU, these events stand out even more traumatically in her mind. Hands down, the Red Room is a brutal place to grow up.
In my mind, the Black Widow movie would have to star a young Scarlett Johansson.
Eventually, after incidents like hospital fires in Sao Paolo and Drakov's daughter, she is noticed by SHIELD. Hawkeye goes after her, and turns her into a SHIELD agent.
Sound like a good movie?
