1. The Mystical World of Marvel
When Thor was released back in 2011, it was a slight nod to the mystical aspect of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Years later, it was confirmed that a Doctor Strange would eventually be made. Although Thor mentioned some aspect of magic, it did not certify anything supernatural. In fact, Thor Odinson said it himself:
Your ancestors called it magic...
[Thor skims through a book on Norse mythology]
...but you call it science. I come from a land where they are one and the same.
Fast forward to present-day, and audiences are witnessing spooky black magic by none other than Scarlet Witch. Now of course later in the movie her black magic ends up becoming 'white', if that makes sense, nonetheless, [The Avengers: Age Of Ultron](tag:293035) did confirm that there is a whole world, no universe, unexplored in the MCU. That's where Doctor Strange comes in. Magic, spells, casts, signs, seals, witchcraft, wizardry, grotesque monsters, and fire...lots and lots of fire.
2. The Incredible Benedict
If you have not heard of Benedict Cumberbatch, well I feel sorry for you. He is an amazing actor, and you can tell how much effort he puts into his character by his performance. I first saw him in Star Trek: Into Darkness, and in my opinion, what made the whole movie great was his character.
But what dumbfounds me the most, is the fact that not only can he play a menacing villain like Khan, but also impersonate a socially awkward yet brilliant computer scientist in The Imitation Game.
Other notable works by Benedict include The Hobbit series, 12 years a slave, and my personal favorite Sherlock. I believe Benedict will do a wonderful job capturing the arrogant, yet caring side of Stephen Strange.
3. Creepy Villains
Let me just say this; Ultron and Loki are two of the most complex villain the MCU has brought out. That's not to say the other villains suck because they don't, but those two have been mesmerizing, in terms of character and abilities.
Now, the fact that Doctor Strange is the 'Sorcerer Supreme' means there will be other sorcerers as well. Basically, Stephen is the gateway for the MCU to expand its line of badass villains. Now, we don't know the exact details of who the supposed villains are, but we do have some strong rumors that are likely to be true.
- Dormammu: A self-loathing, ancient mystical being, Dormammu's existence is enough for him to acquire all the strength, intelligence, and army he needs to attain whatever he seeks. He is described in the words of Stephen as: "Most terrible foe" and "a threat to the life of the universe itself".
- Baron Mordo: Talk about lots of Barons; Baron Von Strucker, Baron Zemo, and now Baron Mordo. Anyways, Baron Mordo is basically the polar opposite of Doctor Strange; opposite side of the same coin. Baron Mordo learned extensive amount of black magic and mysticism proving himself to be a threat to Stephen.
- Lastly, we have not a villain, but an army to be controlled by one of the bad guys mentioned up there (I'm guessing Dormammu). In the Avengers, we had the Chitaurians, in Age of Ultron we had the robots, and now we have mystical/supernatural beings called the Mindless Ones. I believe these would make for great CGI.
4. Soul Gem
Perhaps one of the biggest surprises from Age of Ultron, was the fact that the Chitauri Scepter turned out to be the mind gem (yellow one place on Vision's forehead). Keeping in mind there are two more gems undiscovered (soul and time), it is highly likely that the soul gem could be seen in Doctor Strange and the time gem later on down the line.
Now, how it will be incorporated in the movie is unknown by me, but if I had to guess, I would say it exists in the mystical worlds/universe of Dormammu where the dead people that end up in Hell or so, will have their souls trapped thus giving power to whoever carries it.
5. Other Incredible Actors
There have been rumors that actors such as Chiwetel Ejiofor and Martin Freeman will make appearances in the movie, but it has not been confirmed. However, if they were to appear in the film, it would only elevate the cast even more. Chiwetel is not only a splendid actor, but has also worked with Benedict in 12 Years A Slave. But even more exciting is the idea of Martin Freeman, who is in Sherlock, will reprise for a role with his partner Benedict. Both actors show great chemistry on the screen and to continue that to Doctor Strange will only be wonderous.
This might be a stretch, but say Loki came down to visit Stephen because...Magic!
