1. Great Underrated Cast
Ant-man is loaded with incredible actors. Paul Rudd is an extremely underrated comedic actor. Evangeline Lilly is finally doing some justice to what we all thought she would be after Lost. Michael Pen~a is seriously great in EVERYTHING he does. Judy Greer who is the definition of underrated, will be playing Scott Lang's ex-wife. Corey Stoll is one of those actors who just needs that one public role to make him an A-lister. Of course the real star in this film will be the mentor and original ant-man - Hank Pym played by Michael Douglas. This is the most talent-rich first stand-alone film yet in the marvel universe.
2. It's The First True Comedy From Marvel
As Kevin Feige has said, Marvel is beginning to do more genre specific films. For example, Captain America: Winter Soldier was a 70's spy thriller. Ant-man seems to be Marvel's first straight-up comedy, even more so than the Iron Man films. After the darkness of [The Avengers: Age Of Ultron](tag:293035) this should be an upbeat and laughter inducing movie. As mentioned above, Paul Rudd is hilarious and Peyton Reed has made some stellar comedies like Yes! Man and the Breakup. That mixed with Marvel's track record of funny lines should make for a happy audience.
3. It's Essentially Iron Man
Before winter Soldier came and blew us all away, my favorite marvel stand-alone film was the original Iron Man. It was an amazing origin film that kicked off the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) giving a real shot of adrenaline to the genre in general. If you look at the trailer for both Iron Man and Ant-Man they look very similar with more comedy in Ant-Man. So if you liked Iron Man (and let's face it we all did), then you will most likely love this film.
4. It's The Close To Phase 2
I have to say, hats off to Marvel. What an incredible run of films! Phase 2 has showed us the most personal film of the MCU in Iron Man 3, the biggest scale for a stand-alone in [Captain America: The Winter Soldier](tag:254973), and even brought us out into the far reaches of space in Guardians of the Galaxy. Phase 2 rocked! Ant-Man should be a great close to another successful phase for the MCU, and I for one am not going to miss it!
5. It Will Set Up Civil War
Some were disappointed that Avengers: Age of Ultron didn't exactly set up Civil War, thinking that the next time we hear about Cap and Iron Man would be next March, but perhaps they forgot about Ant-Man. Make no mistake about it, Ant-Man will absolutely set up civil war in many ways. There was a line in the trailer that really stuck out, Hank Pym warning us about giving anyone "God-like powers." It's that kind of ethical dilemma that will lead to the political issues in Civil War. And since we know Paul Rudd is returning for Civil War as part of the New Avengers there Has to be some connections.
6. The Visual Effects Look Awesome
The first trailer of Ant-Man did not really overwhelm me with the visual effects, but that second one - WOW. It looks great! I'm so excited to see the finished product of the shrinking sequence. I think it will be similar to the first time we saw Abrams' version of warp speed in Star Trek, we will all be impressed to show the least. Plus that shot of Lang running with the ants made a rather silly idea look incredibly cool. There will definitely be some jaw-dropping effects in this Summer blockbuster.
7. Classic Avengers Coming To Life
The world loves the Avengers movies. As they should, they are great! For those of us comic book readers though, we know something is missing from the Avengers. Two of the original team have been missing. Now thanks to Ant-Man and the addition of what appears to be a Wasp character in Hope Van Dyne that hole in the Avengers films will be whole. Hear's hoping that the Wasp will become a hero as well, but don't expect her to be right up front, I have a feeling that they are going to "Rhodey" Hope Van Dyne and save her for the sequel.
8. The Addition to Marvel's Past
I love a good back-story! That's what's missing in the MCU. We have Captain America: The First Avenger and Agent Carter but then nothing until 2008. That's over 60 years of history that is unknown and unexplored. The addition of Ant-Man will give us Hank Pym who will certainly help in filling up that timeframe and letting us know what happened. I'm certain that after Infinity Wars we will get another time flick set in the 70's. That would be fun!
9. Peyton Reed + Edgar Wright= Awesome
I was looking forward to what Edgar Wright was going to do with this great and somewhat silly (Yeah, I said it) character. I, along with many movie lovers, was incredibly bummed when Wright and Marvel parted ways. The reason for the mutual breakup has been said to be that while Wright's version of Ant-Man was great it no longer fit into this MCU. So they had Peyton Reed replace Wright, but what a lot of folks don't know is that Marvel is still using a lot of Wright's script. So we aren't getting a non-Edgar Wright film, but more like a Wright+Reed which to me equals anticipation!
10. That moment When Cap Recruits His First Avenger
We know ant-man is going to be avenger and be with the team in Civil War, but how does one become an Avenger? You have to asked to join, you get recruited. But who will do that? Perhaps Nick Fury, but I think that it's about time that Cap become the clear leader of the Avengers and recruit his first addition to the Avengers. I hope this happens in the post credit scene. If this happens, it's going to go down as one of the best moments in MCU history.
